What can I do about an ergodox case?
« on: Sat, 26 July 2014, 19:45:08 »
I have spent months saving up for a custom ergodox. I spent over $50 usd on acrylic and 30$ cutting it. However, after getting home from the laser cutting place, I realized that the guy cut it wrong. The entire case is 1/16 in too small, and does not fit in the least bit, making the case, my time, and my money wasted. I cannot afford to spend another 80$ on the case. Is there anything I can do? I cannot get my money back from the guy who cut it.

You could probably put a cloth or something under it if you really want to.
It was a half joke, but using a pillow cover or a towel under the pcb might work.

I'll think about it. Are there any other things I can do?

Wood might be another cost effective way to do things.
Should be easier to work with since you can sand it down and cut it more easily than acrylic.
Wood for a case would also add some nice flare if you like that kind of stuff.
Kitchen liner/pond liner from Home Depot would work as well for a temporary solution. Fairly cheap, and it adds some friction to the bottom as well which is important.

The only problem is I have to drive about an hour to use a laser cutter, pay a lot, and have my sister sign me in. (At her school)

There may be some people around who have replaced their dox cases...
Maybe you can find some people in this thread who will be willing to sell you their cases for cheap.

Lego, foam, cardboard...

The problem is that the ErgoDox is difficult to tent without a proper case IMHO.

Do you know about czarek's CNC machined case (offered at FalbaTech)?

Put up a classified ad asking for somebody to 3D print case for you.  It could work.

But You are gonna have to spend to get a case.  Don't expect to get it on the cheap.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

That looks nice. I like that you changed to miniUSB to connect the 2 halves, and you moved the placement of the LEDs. Do you have instructions for this?
