Featured Keyboard of the Month
« on: Wed, 06 August 2014, 15:53:34 »
I think a featured keyboard of the month would be really awesome!

I imagine it would work like having a thread for the end of the month where people can post nominations...And even re-use that thread for multiple months. :]
And then the keyboard of the month would be posted at the bottom of the homepage in the "geekhack - Info Center" with a picture and short summary. What do you think?

Maybe it could have a poll to vote.

Never really thought about it till you mentioned it but now I'm surprised GH didn't already have this.  Would there be different categories each month (Korean customs, 60%, TKL, etc.)?  Or just a huge pool?

Maybe it could have a poll to vote.

There are so many nice keyboards around here, probably just need someone to nominate one, and someone else to second it, and go!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

They used to do something like this over at OCN Keyboards, can't remember if it was weekly or monthly...

If it was monthly, we'd have to limit it to 5 or so contenders, chosen by number of nominations, and then have a poll during the last week of the month to choose the ultimate keyboard.

Sounds good to me.  At the end of a year have a poll for Keyboard of the Year.

We can have Keyboard of the Week, then all the weekly winners will be contenders for the Keyboard of the Month, then the monthly winners will be the contenders for the Keyboard of the Year.

Monthly would be best, IMO. Weekly would be more to manage vs. monthly. Need to give people ample time to vote.

I agree on the monthly rather than weekly.

This way an entire month can take submissions.

Keyboard of the week is too often.

With monthly, it would have to be very structured, in a manner similar to this:

- Weeks 1 & 2: Accept submissions. All submissions are accepted.
- Week 3: Users can post their top 5 favorite submissions. This data will be used to select the final 5 contenders for the month.
- Week 4: Final voting on Keyboard of the Month.

Sounds like fun. :)

Maybe it could have a poll to vote.

I think such a pole would work splendidly in a Member Polls subforum. Therefore, as the President of Geekhack.org, I hereby endorse this proposal.
