For just some weeks ago I never touched a mechanical keyboard and now today I have a ducky premier MX Red with PBT keycaps, with a wooden wrist rest and a sleeved USB. And in some days I will get my second mechanical keyboard, Poker II ISO MX Blue with a aluminium 60% case from Pexon, sleeved USB and later on with Granite R2 keycaps set!

@matt3o I just want to thank you for this beautiful keycaps set that will be my first :D

Didn't mean to call you out.
Just a lot of people remarking about the prices which are actually quite good.

few notes:

- distribution of sets sold in R1 and R2 is not the same
- almost all kits are different from R1 and R2 (some have more keys, others less)
- there's basically no price difference between tiers when you reach 150 (meaning once you got there, that's the best price you can get no matter if you sell 150 or 400)

You're right, the distribution between kits are not going to be the same. I just used R1 to get a rough estimate.
I did overlook the some sets being different, or I didn't think it would make much of a difference, but I see now it's likely that is the reason the sets are priced differently. I just looked at the modifier kit; we get two more 1.25u keys at the cost of one 1u. The 1.25u keys probably cost more to produce so that might be the reason the set is priced higher.

Massdrop already reaching their lowest prices would not make much a difference for sets that have already sold over 150 as you said. Where it could make a difference is for sets that haven't reached that 150 point yet. However MD seem to have already have decent prices on the sets that were less popular in R1 (e.g ISO Enter), sets that might not be at that 150 point yet, meaning they anticipate those sets to reach higher tiers and have set their price accordingly.

Overall I think the prices are very similar. And since they come so close a comparison like mine might not be the best thing to do, as it's probably more likely to throw things off because as you say the sets are different.
Can't deny that the price for the common kit is great, compared to R1. And the Blank kit now at $10.99 compared to $27 before. I just wish that I could get my extra mods for cheaper.

-SNIP-

TL;DR: boring spreadsheet stuff

I'm not sure where everyone comparing prices between rounds is getting their info:

http://i.imgur.com/vcFRSXW.png

final prices of R1 right there.
common[$5 ****ing dollars cheaper], nerdom[gamer now], intl[made 1 set], egdx, apple, windows, other OS <-- all better prices
you guys can't be serious.

I tried to estimate based on R1 the distribution of sets purchased in R2. Then compare that with the pricing tiers from R1 and see where the prices would land had this second round gone through PMK and been as successful. So I'm not using the final prices, but the prices this might have gotten on the PMK website. If that makes sense.

My intention was not to complain about the prices or anything, I just wanted to get something objective too look at when comparing.

first of all, thanks everybody for the kind words.

secondly the problem here is mainly SP. As you can clearly see with the common kit massdrop price is generally better than PMK. The problem is SP price that won't go lower than that. Not blaming them, at 500 we probably reached the raw cost of plastic and the only way to go lower would be by ordering 5000 or more... or make simpler designs... or go China possibly.

Yeah. I think the main point to stress is the profit delta.
The twelve cent example explained it really well.

What would be better for Ergodox? Modifier kit or Pro modifier kit? The Pro I assume.Haven't noticed it before that I need a modifier kit. I thought that the ergodoxian and common kit will cover everything  :-X

Matt3o: Why is Ergodoxian kit without a 2u key with a Space legend? It was in R1.

You need common + text mods (or icon mods) + pro mods (or icon mods) + 7u space bar (for HHKB like layout)

About ~60 gamer kits for Space Invader keys.

Very very nice.
Unfortunately a no go for me due to EU import fees (massdrop sucks this way).

Would a proxy help?  I can receive your order and ship it over to you if that helps.

I can also do this for a few others.

Did you get my PM from 26 August 2014, 16:56:31?

Just want to make sure you read it, before the drop expires...

common + icon OR text modifiers for a poker 2.

choc mini has a custom spacebar, you can't cover that. Apart from that you also need the pro modifiers.

You can take a keycool84 that is more standard, though.

Yes second row , third key (starting from the bottom left ) , compare to text modifier , it's the Shift Key above the Fn

It is WAY too late to be adding things to kits, with over 3000 sold.
There are 2 1u FN keys and a 1u alt gr.
As well as /r/, GH, and DT 1u keys in the common kit.
I'm sure you can make something work.
