few notes:
- distribution of sets sold in R1 and R2 is not the same
- almost all kits are different from R1 and R2 (some have more keys, others less)
- there's basically no price difference between tiers when you reach 150 (meaning once you got there, that's the best price you can get no matter if you sell 150 or 400)
You're right, the distribution between kits are not going to be the same. I just used R1 to get a rough estimate.
I did overlook the some sets being different, or I didn't think it would make much of a difference, but I see now it's likely that is the reason the sets are priced differently. I just looked at the modifier kit; we get two more 1.25u keys at the cost of one 1u. The 1.25u keys probably cost more to produce so that might be the reason the set is priced higher.
Massdrop already reaching their lowest prices would not make much a difference for sets that have already sold over 150 as you said. Where it could make a difference is for sets that haven't reached that 150 point yet. However MD seem to have already have decent prices on the sets that were less popular in R1 (e.g ISO Enter), sets that might not be at that 150 point yet, meaning they anticipate those sets to reach higher tiers and have set their price accordingly.
Overall I think the prices are very similar. And since they come so close a comparison like mine might not be the best thing to do, as it's probably more likely to throw things off because as you say the sets are different.
Can't deny that the price for the common kit is great, compared to R1. And the Blank kit now at $10.99 compared to $27 before. I just wish that I could get my extra mods for cheaper.

TL;DR: boring spreadsheet stuff
I'm not sure where everyone comparing prices between rounds is getting their info:

final prices of R1 right there.
common[$5 ****ing dollars cheaper], nerdom[gamer now], intl[made 1 set], egdx, apple, windows, other OS <-- all better prices
you guys can't be serious.
I tried to estimate based on R1 the distribution of sets purchased in R2. Then compare that with the pricing tiers from R1 and see where the prices would land had this second round gone through PMK and been as successful. So I'm not using the final prices, but the prices this might have gotten on the PMK website. If that makes sense.
My intention was not to complain about the prices or anything, I just wanted to get something objective too look at when comparing.
