Cherry MX Green & White switch comparison (+sound)
« on: Tue, 12 August 2014, 22:12:35 »
Hi guys,

When I was looking for a clear comparison between Cherry MX Green and Cherry MX White (AkA Milky) switches I found it there aren't any yet. Well, I found this one but it doens't give a sound comparison and in my opinion the conclusion is simply incorrect. I managed to get my hands on two KBParadise V60 Mini mechanical keyboards; one with Cherry MX Green and one with Cherry MX White switches. Because I wanted to include a sound comparison as well I decided to make a video instead of a written comparison. So if someone is still in doubt between the two, I hope this could help.

Kind regards,

Michiel

Have read about Whites being inconsistent, and I really have to wonder what application they were even developed for. They essentially have the same attributes as Greens, but seem to be a strange mystery otherwise. Outside of collection purposes, there doesn't seem to be much of a reason to use Whites.

Thanks for the video.

I have exactly the same feeling about them, wouldn't really recommend them to anyone.

If you want stiffer Blue's? Take Greens. If you want less sound? Take Clears. As I said in the video Whites seem like a total random combination of the two, was very disappointed by their performance.

I've written a review and comparison of every switch I've tried, and whites are my favorite cherry MX switch. I didn't notice any inconsistency when I did my initial review, but since then it's all I hear about with whites. It's all opinion, at the end of the day, still. My board, however, wasn't NEARLY as inconsistent as the one you showed. When you start carefully pressing switches one by one to test them, you can definitely tell that some are louder than the others. However, none were ever anywhere near as loud as greens or as quite as clears. When I'm typing, I honestly can't really feel any inconsistencies. It's only when I look for them that I find them.

The board I used for my whites was a ducky yellow edition, with the one used for greens being a g2 pro. Basically the same keyboards, other than color, backlighting, and pbt dyesub vs. engraved pbt caps. It's got to be batch to batch consistency that determines what you get. I don't know if you got a lemon and most whites are like mine or if I just happened to get a remarkably good one and most are like yours.

Either way, I'll update my review to reflect that I may have gotten a special batch.
