This is pretty nice?  0.0 I looked at one that was similar and it was priced at $99 unless I'm being a noob ...

It *might* be a rubber dome.  Not familiar with that part number and can't find it online.

Don't rush a BIN, the seller has at least 50.

The layout's weird, even by 122 standards..

I see,   well..  I have zero boards in my collection,  so I sent in a 14.99 offer.  Hopefully he will accept it and I'll report back to you!

It looks like this one  but I may be wrong.

The part number is different.   It reminds me of a ComputerLab 122 - same legends on the keys - which is pad printed black keys and is rubber dome.

Maybe you got a great deal.  You could ask the seller if they could pop a key off a board and take a picture.

Even with the nearly $50 postage to Australia, it's still a great deal.

Now ... what's wrong with it?  Apart from the non-ANSI layout.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

That would definitely explain the price.

But the title definitely says "NEW UNICOMP MODEL M MECHANICAL 122 KEY USB KEYBOARD".

So in theory, if you buy it and it's not mechanical, can you get a refund since the title says it's mechanical? I'm not exactly sure how eBay would handle that.

What I was thinking since Ebay protects the buyer no matter what. I messaged the seller, but the store is closed on the weekends. If this is real this is an AMAZING price. I would have to buy one.

The last model M cable I got on eBay was "NOS". It arrived with scratches on the connector form it being heavily used, and smelling heavily of smoke.

Those guys will say whatever they want in the hopes that it'll work.

I have no need of such a keyboard, and I already have a Unicomp, but still, great find and I'd get one if I wasn't already spending so much on custom Korean boards.  :'(

Do we have any idea what scan codes the extra keys send on this model?

As in, does this send a unique F13, or a shift+F1 when I hit F13?

Usually there is a jumper inside the newer 122-key keyboards where you can set the scancode set it uses.

it will depend on what sort of terminal emulation software it was meant to be used with.

Unfortunately, with some of the unicomp ones, your controller will look like this guy's

I went for it! The price made it pretty impossible for me not to jump the gun, but this'll be my first model m :] The next BS board I get will hopefully be a SSK. Hopefully hopefully I won't buy any other BS boards in the near future because I set the standard so high haha

I have so many buckling spring boards now I can't even remember how many. Got to be at least 10 Fs and something like 6 Ms, though one of the Ms is currently missing. It's only a terminal KB for parts.
How difficult is it to make into ANSI? That sounds like a project I'd like to take on.

1. Start to bolt mod it (cut rivets off, drill frame for new bolts)
2. When it's open, move "enter-area" hammers around to ANSI locations. Remove "extra" hammer from leftshift location.
3. install stabilizer inserts for shift and enter (I think the enter one just needs to be moved over? all my ISO enters are from model Fs and have wires) You will need a new stabilizer barrel insert for left shift though
4. finish bolting it back together (install bolts, nuts, screw together (just barely finger tight. do not tighten! )
5. ?? ?
6. Profit!

You will end up with one spare hammer. and need one stabilizer insert from unicomp. You will also need donor ANSI left shift, enter and \| (the key above enter) keycaps.

I totally WAS going to harvest a stab insert from that terminal M I had but since I can't find it, I guess I'll get it from one of the others. Maybe I'll just say "forget it!" and put a shift from a 1390120. Maybe I'll turn my old unicomp into a "parts" unit. Hmm.

I'll probably ansi / bolt mod mine so I can document it when that happens.

In my opinion, Unicomp's model m has the worse type feeling amount all model m manufacturer. If you really want to try out a model m, I think you should go for early ibm 401 rather then unicomp. If you are not in hurry, you could get one in good condition in less then $60 shipped here or on ebay.

I did a search for that part # and nothing came up.  But I see that Unicomp CS says it's a buckling spring model.  I'm still not sure about the differences between the terminal, emulator version of the Unicomp 122's.  There's a 5250, PC5250, and 3270??.  I would want one that I can remap with media hotkeys on the left hand side of the keyboard.  Would F13-F24 be remappable?

Terminal:  The type that would actually be used with an old IBM terminal.  Sends scancodes that are not usable on modern PCs.  Requires modding to use.

Emulator:  Compatible with both terminal and PC.  Sends unique scancodes for the keys that are not on the standard 104/105 layouts.  The extra keys usually do nothing because the programs don't have a use for them, or the PC doesn't have a driver for them.

PC:  These send shift+normal PC key for the extra keys.  All keys are compatible with a modern PC out of the box, but you can't reprogram the extra keys as multimedia keys.

3275 and 5250 are two different layouts.  The 5250 layout is closer to the modern PC.

If you want to reprogram the keys, the emulator is the easiest.

You have to pay for the return shipping unless the seller agree to pay for that. With more then 20+ people returning their keyboards. I think they might not pay for that...

I say we have enough power to down his feedback if he says it was a typo. If he says it is a typo and tries to cancel I vote we all leave a negative feedback . :) Just a thought
You have to pay for the return shipping unless the seller agree to pay for that. With more then 20+ people returning their keyboards. I think they might not pay for that...

Ebays' newest policy they are implementing makes the seller pay for return shipping.

This is only true if a buyer returns an item because it's not as described in the listing or if it's broken. Claiming a dress doesn't fit or that they don't like the color wouldn't qualify.

If the seller cancelled the transaction, there'd be no keyboard to return.

Maybe I'll get one and make it into an unsaver.

If you end up making it into an unsaver I would love to follow your build progress so I can attempt to do the same..never done it before. :D

Exactly. I am saying if the seller decides not to send out the keyboards because of a typo .  We will have the force to blackmail >:)

eBay protects sellers against something called 'feedback extortion', however that doesn't mean you can't leave negative feedback. It just means you can't threaten them with it.

I know, I didn't mean that we should actually blackmail him :). I just meant we should leave negative feedback. Listing errors for a power seller is really unacceptable <.< .
