I had this idea long ago and finally got some time to develop the pumpkey

This is just a prototype carved on wood, ideally the final cap would be cast in resin (maybe even glow in the dark). These are still many small errors, but I'm getting there

This is version 0.9

Hope you like it, I spent really a lot of time on it.

I also dig the wood material, but i wouldn't mind if this would come in other materials.
Will this cap be very limited?

I don't know if it will ever be produced. I'd like to... but it takes a lot of time (and money actually). Anyway I'll try one more prototype to correct the errors and see how it goes.

Do it, you won't regret it.
I think everyone thinks this would be a great addition to the artisan caps we already have on the market now.
It's just amazing, would be a shame if it won't even be produced...

Wow this looks great! The fact that it is made in wood, would give it a nice option to stain it however you want

Anyone have one of those little wooden boxes as a kid? About the size of a walnut, you open it up and there's a jiggly bug or some such creature inside with wriggly legs. Think they were called Bug in a Nut or something really literal.

I'm making the next prototype in plastic so I can use an end mill of 0.5mm and 0.2mm for even higher details

It is difficult to cast things with holes in them... I expect that you would still have to drill them out with the router.

I did it before, it's not overly complicated. You just have to place some tape in the inside before making the mold. The final product will have a very thin layer of resin at the bottom of the holes that you can easily remove with a sharp scalpel or a needle.

Can your CNC do aluminium? If so, that's what I would use to get a really finely detailed master. Then make molds from that and resin cast 'em! I'd love a solid orange pumpkin for my Cherry Legends Replica or Nostalgia sets!

yes I could do aluminum but for this particular piece I'd need very small bits that are pretty expensive for aluminum (while rather cheap for plastic).

Nice look, but from what the discussion section of mass drop says, it seems that these are 3D printed. Am I correct? I don't know how I feel about that.

yeah it's 3d printed. I gave the model to Massdrop that tried to 3d printed it. They say it's ridiculously cute and I have no reason to doubt it (but I haven't seen it in person).
