The sky blue LEDs are lighter in shade than I thought. Finally mounted them onto a board, here are the best pictures my phone could take to capture the color.

OMFG I JUST SAW THIS THIS IS BEAUTIFUL

edit: Is that gmk classic beige or...?

Seeing that it has little nubs on the homing keys I assume it's BSP.

I could use quite a bit of these for various projects whether they're cyan, sky blue, or mint greenish.

just wondering how many days did it take for it to arrive from the date they ship it off ?

Placed the order on Aliexpress 8/22/14.

Arrived at my doorstep (West Coast USA) 9/16/14, so about 3 weeks.

Got it from another member here, but I'd assume it's the same set as the one Originative stocks.

I don't think I'll be able to run this GB. I'm not financially solvent enough to handle this amount of money, as one mistake (like paypal freezing my account) can financially ruin me.

Hopefully someone else with more than $50 in savings will step up.

I'd be able to run this if folks want. Is there any more interest checking we want to do or should I set up a thread and googly form for a group buy?

I'll probably add every 2x3x4 color from this page. Are there any others y'all want? Throw me links.

Methinks it's time for a GB.

And just checking, have you run a GB before?  While this seems simple, adding more colors will make this one a ton of work.  It might be worth running just 2-3 colors max at a time.  It will cut down on the stress of it.

That's a valid point. I haven't run a group buy before, although I do ship a lot of stuff from home so I have some experience with the fulfillment end. What do people think about running three colors as a start and then doing more in a later round?

My top 3 are probably cyan, sky blue, and pink... I would probably order 2-300 of each.  If one or more of those gets pushed back to a possible later round, that's fine by me if it simplifies things for you  :thumb:

Based on reading the thread history, those seem to be everyone's top three. The only other one I'd consider would be what they list as orange since it looks a very nice amber color. I might just order 100 of them with the first batch to evaluate the color.

Those three colours sound fine to me. I'd definitely be in for a couple hundred of each.

I would also be in for cyan, pink and sky blue. Maybe 100-200 of each.

Cyan, pink, and sky blue sound awesome I'd be in for 100-200 of each.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

2x3x4 LED and SIP socket Group Buy

Even though they come from a separate source, I thought offering SIP sockets with this buy would make a lot of sense. You can get hella more LEDs if you know you get to swap them out without desoldering!

How would SIP sockets work with the LEDs? This sounds cool, I'm very interested

I basically works like an electrical outlet. The sip socket goes inside the switch and gets soldered to the PCB and you can plug and unplug LEDs into the socket.

Ya, this link is a really good resource on the topic.  If you want to see some more examples you can checkout my build log.  I have built two boards with sip sockets.

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58969.msg1349714#msg1349714

Edit: Just a note.  It is super important to put LEDs into the sip sockets before you solder them.  If you don't you will have a very frustrating couple hours getting your LEDs into the sip sockets.  I know some members have made this mistake in the past and it is not a fun mistake to make...

If this IC is still active, I am definitely interested in getting at least 100. If we can do them in increments of less than 100, I'd like 150 of each color, whatever colors there may be.

Dorkvader. Does locking the IC make sense?
