Predictions for next years trend
« on: Fri, 12 September 2014, 16:24:29 »
I think it's safe to say that 2014 is the year of the multi color led with glowing sparkly lights and rainbows for mainstream brands.

What do you think next years trend is going to be?

I agree with this as there has been a recent shortage of Cherry MX switches available.
This was from a quote from Carter, a rep at Cooler Master in a recent thread discussing QFR's being out of stock:
They havent been discontinued but certainly reduced in QTY/Availability due to the switch shortage. The switches were pushed towards newer items.

gh needs more ripster.

maybe all admins and mods will quit (or at least the annoying ones) and ripster will make a glorious comeback.

looking down at your keyboard while typing so you can see your ugly LEDs will be the next trend.

we'll all forget to touch type like pathetic n00bs.

Seriously, I think mechs have reached a critical mass of gamers/enthusiasts/programmers that in the next year development and releases will rapidly increase. I predict either a gaming laptop with MX or clone switches or a tablet stand/keyboard with mech switches. Maybe out of left field, like,...Microsoft Surface MX cover or something.
I'm back.

I think gaming companies are going to start using kailh switches and more LEDs in 2015
At the same time they might do like razer and try and make new stems which isn't a bad thing

As for enthusiast keyboards I think we'll be seeing lots of new keyboards in smaller formats coming out and with different key layouts too

We'll probably also see the use of the clear mx tops for enthusiast keyboards as well harvested from the RGB boards

I'm hoping for new layouts and more boards in 65% or 75% form factor.  New materials for cases or different combination of materials.  Kind of bored with what we've got now.  I want something shiny and new.

RGB LEDs will definitely be a thing. I think they are partly to do with the shortage of regular cherry switches right now, and Ducky will have their version in the new year as well.

And if the Unicomp SSK comes out then that is going to be very very interesting.

I am really tempted by the new Ducky Mini as well...
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

We will make a compact (tkl/60%/whatever is cool) model F with new controller (already available thx to some genius in here) and a new case/plate/pcb.

It will become the holy grail of GH. There will be no more wars between MX, Topre and ALPS, just good old Model F buckling spring.

I have heard that (from a youtube video) Leopold F660C's build quality is not as good (at least worse than cherry MX version of F660).

more kalih switch boards

The length of time will be enough and people will begin to decide if Kailh are decent replacements for Cherry.
If not Gaote will take off.

Corsair RGB type systems will get more popular, but there will need to be a standardized API for programming effects.
It's too much to create fancy effects if you have to create them separately for a bunch of keyboards.

Also if RGB does start to take off, watch people  program notifications in the keyboard eg you get email the numpad flashes red, a download finishes your spacebar flashes blue  etc.
