Recommend me a chair
« on: Mon, 15 September 2014, 17:18:59 »
Hello, hello gentle folk I have been meaning to ask this a few times but thought I would finally get round to doing so, I am in search of a new chair for my desk/room now I only have a very very small area around 4 foot where the chair can fit in, my current chair is far too big for my liking and I would like something smaller...I think. I do have a budget looking around the £100 mark but I am willing to go over if you can sell me on why the chair is worth the cost :)

Requirements for the chair:

Able to be lowered quite far down as my desk is very short.
Good back support.
Must be able to sit in the chair ~ Very important :)
Others to come, maybe.

I shall update this thread tomorrow with a picture of the area the chair needs to fit in, as its late now but I just wanted to make sure I have this up or I never would :x

Hopefully some of you lovely people can help me, also was not sure were to put this thread as it could be technically ergonomics :s

In that price range, you should check out the chair in my first post in the thread below. I've had it for a while now and I'm very happy with the quality for the price. Good luck!

Ikea Markus is the best low-cost chair I've owned.

How's the cushion holding up on that?  I haven't owned the Markus but I've had two other Ikea chairs in the same range and over time, the cushion just seems to disappear and I end up sitting on metal.  Very painful. :(

It's firm, but I'm well over 200lbs. It's actually held up pretty well over the past 4 years considering.

You should find an office furniture place nearby and try some chairs. I have an Aeron and a Steelcase Leap that I use at different desks and they're both comfortable. Craigslist is a good place to look if you're on a budget.

It’s quite a bit beyond your stated budget (as are most of the other suggestions in here), but I’ve really been enjoying a Capisco chair

If you have an option for something similar to Craigslist, I would start there. I snagged a $800 chair for $140 from a used-furniture company. It was basically new when I got it. I have been super happy with my purchase.

If you spend lots of time sitting, like I do, you'll want to make sure you make a proper investment. I went from a cheap chair to the Steelcase Think and it's made such a huge difference for me.

Good luck on your hunt!

I did a similar upgrade to slip84. I went from some random OfficeMax chair to a Steelcase Amia after sitting in a bunch of Steelcases at work. It was well worth the upgrade. I also bought my chair from a used office furniture store as a refurbished chair for 1/5 of the retail price.

I bought this one from John Lewis about two years ago and it's frigging awesome. It can go low, it reclines quite a bit, and the mesh at the back is nice and tight, it's not incredible back support, but it's still quite good

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?
