Previous version of these thick O-rings (red ones) were covering up some of the backlight LEDs.

As you can see, clear O-rings are better for backlight keycaps since light will shine through the O-ring.

It has a very small key travel reduction, so you may or may not notice it. It dampens the noise pretty well, and eliminates almost all of the “shock” you feel when the key hits the bottom. This one is my personal favorite, but I know it’s not for everyone. It’s the max thickness you can have in an O-ring. It bottoms out just after the key’s registration point. This simulates scissor switches on laptops or thin membrane keyboard, but still retains the “mechanical” feel from MX switches. || source : WhiteFireDragon’s GB

GON NS NerD TKL - SOLD

More

As you may or may not know, the waiting game for any korean custom keyboard is tough on the wallet and the nerves but from my experience, it's worth every penny and sweat !

> So why am I looking to sell this wonderful keyboard ?

Simply because I have no use for it right now.

- The board itself looks quite stunning.
- The switches are gorgeously smooth.
- LED backlighting is programmable and easily customized.

I can't justify having this keyboard preciously stowed away in a drawer any longer.

----

~ TL;DR summary

GALLERY : http://imgur.com/a/mm6FD

White side LEDs - 2x3x4 white in-switch LEDs (can be easily swapped with any other color) - 1.8mm orange CapsLock indicator LED.

Soldering job & assembly :
All SMD components were soldered by GON.
His attention to detail is simply incredible and I tried to complete the build with the same dedication.

Condition :
It is in flawless shape except for one tiny scratch on the top left corner of the polycarbonate layer and another tiny scratch on one of the feet.
They are highlighted in the photos.
Both scratches were there when I received the housing (unassembled) from South Korea.

Used this keyboard for less than a month as a daily driver.

Since nothing about your rings are known, I'm not sure anyone here has the ability to compare. What hardness are they? What thickness?

You are in a better position to compare than LPWL.

I ... am not in a position to buy this month. But I would like to hear what shipping to the states ends up being when someone gets their order to them, as October is likely to see me buying into this.

It should be around 5-6 days to the USA. For example, it took 4 days for delivery in Canada.

EDIT : I can give you some numbers, now that Round 1 is closed :
  • Australia : 10 days.
  • USA : between 8 and 10 days.
  • Canada : between 7 and 8 days.
  • Europe : between 2 and 4 days.

Can you take a picture of your rings together with a blue one from the WASDkeyboards - a side view, to compare their thicknesses visually. Also: if you have those blue ones can you post a comparison of their specs? Many people are familiar with those and are willing to compare. Be proactive in a nice way and you may sell a few sets.

TIL that Paypal fees are not the same for receiving payments from buyers inside and outside EEA (European Economic Area).

3,4% vs 3,9%

Oh BTW is it possible to organise some proxies to minimize shipping?

Sure, no problem if you can find someone who is okay to proxy.

I will place an order sometime during the next week for one of each 90pcs.

According to amazon.com WASD blue rings are made of "EPDM rubber, resistant to cracking and tearing".
http://www.amazon.com/Cherry-Rubber-O-Ring-Switch-Dampeners/dp/B00AZQ2OF8
My personal experience with these particular rings supports this claim.
Here is a link to Wikipedia on this material: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EPDM_rubber
Now, your rings are made of silicone and my concern is that they could be less resistant to "cracking and tearing", but this may became apparent after several months of use.

  • Is EPDM rubber more resistant to wearing and tearing than Silicone rubber ?
    - Yes.
  • Should you worry before slamming your keys with my O-rings on board ?
    - No, you should not.

I don't have any WASD blue o-rings so I can't compare. I asked swill to help us on this question and he confirmed his intention to do it - So let us wait before issuing an opinion in favour of one particular model in this (very) subjective area.

I've been using my "slim" and "fat" O-rings since last June and they still look perfect. KeyboardCo is also selling some O-rings made of silicone (the "slim" ones) and so far I've never heard any complaint.

Maybe I should try to run a torture test to check how well they are performing, this could be fun :p

Would you recommend the slim or fat o-rings for a Filco TKL Browns with original Cherry Doubleshots? I really would like to reduce the noise, because I bottom-out when I type and play video games.

I'm using both O-rings with my CODE keyboard (OEM profile - stock keycaps) but my guess is "Fat" O-rings won't work well with Cherry profile keycaps.

Here is my layout :

But if you wish to try it by yourself, I can add some extras to your order (for free).

Awesome! I just paid the invoice for a bag of slim o-rings. I would greatly appreciate having a few fat ones to try too. I like the idea of mixing them like yours. My moogle kit doesn't use the cherry profile, so maybe fats would be good then? I have a R3 moogle kit that uses SP profile.

Thank you !

I've added some "fat" ones to your order. I'll ship it tomorrow morning  ;)

I don't have any SP keycaps right now but from what I've seen (here - source : ebay.de)  R3 Moogle kit does not have any crossbars inside.

So here is my thought :

[...]

When you are saying : "SP's DCS profile do not even have any struts so they don't work with O-rings".

Do you mean that SP keycaps do not have any crossbar :

Show Image

If so, why a big O-ring would not do the same job than a thinner O-ring + crossbar ?

You should be able to answer this question soon - for free (!)

Thanks, Lpwl! I'll report my findings when I get the chance. I get the feeling that the fat rings would do just fine to compensate for the lack of a crossbar on the SP DCS underside.

My O-rings arrived today! Thanks so much! The thick orings are really nice :)) and are really silent. Typing on reds right now and the shortened travel distance is actually bliss ;D also tested the thinner ones which IMO don't feel as nice on reds. But they're easier going if you're uncomfortable with super short travel distances.

I got my slim O-rings yesterday. I have Tai Hao keycaps and the O-rings work very well with them :thumb:

Got mine today!! Thank you Lpwl for doing this. It's been two years since I was first interested in o-rings and your research and service helped me pull the trigger to get them. I'm currently installing them right now, but you were right in recommending the slim o-rings for the Cherry keys. The fat rings prevent the keys from pushing down flat, and they reduce the travel distance too much for my taste. I'll add more later after I get acquainted to the change, but so far I really like how much noise they reduce and the travel distance reduction is just about right. Thanks again!

Couple of quesitons, guys:

1) Did anyone tried using fat o-rings with Cherry profile keycaps? I wounder if they'll actually fit;
2) Will fat o-rings interfere with LEDs? Anyone tried it on backlit boards?

Question to Lpwl, are there any plans for future buys? As an suggestion - maybe do it in clear rubber next time and EPDM instead of silicone, if you could source it ofc/

Fat rings will fit but they will feel like they reduce the travel distance A LOT. some people (like me) don't mind it, others hate it. In regards to LEDs, they will interfere with your keycaps and also may alter the colour of the light slightly so that should be taken into account whether you want these or not. Also Lpwl is trying to source clear O-rings but I haven't been on in a week or so and I'm not too updated on the status of that.  ;D

1) Just my guess but "fat" O-rings + cherry profile keycaps is not a good idea !

2) Yes, you will lose some backlighting but it's not really "that bad" !

Take a look at my CODE keyboard /w "fat" O-rings :

.... and yes, I'll be back offering O-rings here in November !

Soft
+ Clear
+ Thick
+ Cheap

Do you have any updates on more O-rings? hopefully we can get EPDM next time around  :p I'm looking to hopefully but a pack of slim O-rings, but it'd still be at the end of the year so no hurry  ;D
