I wonder if I should actually estimate the value of my little collection, I don't really think I want to know. It can't be too bad, right?

The estimated value and what you've spent could be totally different.

Well by estimated value I don't mean saying my keycaps are worth any more than I have spent on them or anything. (I'm not one of those people who says my collection is worth 20x what it really is because I have click clacks and brobots and everything, if you know what i mean)

I just mean try my best to guess what I have spent on everything :P

It can't be too bad, right?

 :-X
You still haven't said how much you spent, go for it  ;)

Well the name of the thread is what have you spent, not what is the estimated value of your crap.
Read what I said, please.

Or am I supposed to know how much I spent down to the cent?

traverse through their purchasing history

:))  This is what I did.  Still ultimately an estimation though, as I skipped a few smaller items and I have some modifier keys that I have no idea where I got them from so I don't know how much they cost.  Also I just remembered I skipped a keyboard entirely.

Title. This includes keycap, switches, leds, cases, switches, etc.
As a noob I have only spent 280 on 2 clear pokers.

Hey OP since bunch of people like you love to open threads like this just to make them self feel better because they have spent as less as possible while others are shelling more and more into keyboards.

Now read this carefully specially because ur noob as u claim. I have spent probably around $2000-$2200 in keyboards thats including caps, Trikx Full Korean board and bunch of IBM's, next on the list is the light saver Korean board when new GB opens. Now keep this in mind, I hunted bunch of IBM's and since I had decent collection I also had lots of extra NIB ones. I sold bunch of the extra NIB IBM's  and already I made close to $2500 by selling them.... still have 7 more boards left to be sold....

So it looks I should be pretty even if you look at it from your perspective as in muahahaha I only spend a little bit and let them fools spend a lot muahahaha... BTW I have over $70.000 in savings, feeling better now?

Oh dear. Let's see.

In order of purchase:

KB-5181 - $2
Model F XT - $20
Model M #1 - $20
Model F 122 #1,2 - $70
Model M #2,3 - $40
Model M #4,5,6,7,8,9 - $120
Model M2 - $1
Kishsaver - $240?
4704 107 key - $150

total - $663

This is including shipping, but not including resales which have recovered a fair amount of my costs.

[Edit]: I completely forgot about accessories. I've got like $50 in Teensies in various stages, $40 in parts from Unicomp, $15 in extra cables for Model M, plus a couple other things I've got no clue what they are now...

i stopped putting $$$ in my savings account when i joined GH... that should give you a rough estimate

Same, I told myself I'd start saving again in the new year...

LOL.  Most of the big spenders don't even know.  I for one have absolutely no clue how much I've spent, and I don't particularly care to know that.  :))  Hahaha.
I think the going rate is at least a $1 per post.
I certainly hope that I am well below that.
Monies recouped in resales count toward bringing down the "spent" total, don't they?
there are some exceptions, but $1-$2 per post is the average
although I guess that's the story with averages

Everyone knows the story with averages. I'm at about $4-5 a post.

Show Image

More then I can ever count.....
Okay, now I'm curious and considering tallying it up.   :-X :-X :-[ :blank:
At this point I'm not sure I could if I wanted to.

I have the majority of my receipts/invoices/transaction records in a filing cabinet.
Even still I can't actually keep track of it all.
I'm like the citizens of South Park in the Milkman episode where everyone is getting packages from UPS and they don't even know what they ordered.

and all the ****ty stuff when you are first starting out
I'm glad I got over that phase early. Used to pick up all kinds of weird boards off eBay but now I don't even bother looking as I'm only interested in boards I can actually use daily.

I bought literally every set I could get my hands on. Now I've sworn off DCS profile and stock keyboards.

Ha ha, great topic...

Does this include the dozens of non-mechanical KB's I've owned since DOS days? (Now where'd I leave my walker...?) Probably between $1–2 K on those, including about 10 Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000's, which I was hooked on for years.

I've bought only two MK's—understandable, isn't it, since they don't wear out? Mine haven't, at least. (The only reason I bought a 2nd one was to have two kinds of switches.) That came to about $250.

Now, if you're asking me how much my wife thinks I've spent on keyboards, that's another story...

Certainly more than $1-$2 per post, for me.  :)) I hope I'll get to spend enough time here for my post count to fit that rule before too long. I'd estimate I've spent about $1.5k, most of that within the last several months.

Ok there are some large ambiguities there.

First I spent $100 on a Rosewill, but the keyboard included a $20 gift card which I spent on  SD cards. How does that count? As $80 or $100?

The microusb went belly up. Does the flux and desoldering braid I bought to repair it count in the total?

I just added everything up and I've spent $959.57. It was $407.09 on 5 boards, $350.86 on keycaps, and $201.62 on other things. I've only sold two things, a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate and a Leopold FC200RT/AB so after sales my total ended up being $818.95.

My current collection is probably worth something around 800 dollars (just 2 keyboards and a couple of artisan keycaps)

But this doesn't include the hundreds of dollars I've lost over time buying and selling stuff (probably close to 300 dollars lost in all)

For a hobby, this isn't half bad, I'd say. At least it's better than my college roommate back in the day who kept $40k worth of audio equipment in our dorm room (not including the stuff he left at home)

I appear to be far behind my post count- guess I better become more active. Do returns count? Because without returns I've spent $400, which is about to become $530 when massdrop charges me for my EC108 Pro. However, I returned the Novatouch I bought in pursuit of 35g Topre switches. So Effectively I am at $340. (I'm currently using a KUL ES-87 With Leopold Thick PBT caps- we'll see what happens to them when the EC108 arrives).

How much I have spent, since November, which was when I started a lot of purchasing since I only had my BW, about 2k, and 500 of it was on things to go on my bface, and including board purchase, and a total of 6 boards. And around 10? artisans, Miami, and cords. I have sold/traded most of it, so my current price of everything is around 700, the bface really took a hit to my wallet, but it is so worth it.

Corrected to

Broken Ducky £35, parts to fix it £25
JD40 kit £50
Lots of switches/stems £65
Keycap sets £85
Artisan caps £45 +£35 +£60+£18 = £158

so £418 or about $630 total.

I have 3 mechanical boards. Here's what I've spent on them:
  • An October 4, 1985 Model M, part no. 1386303 - $18 for it and the 3161 terminal it came with.
  • An August 5, 1993 Lexmark Model M, part no. 59G7980 (a Lexmark with a removable cable!) - $0
  • A Dell AT101W, of unknown age, but around 1993 because the ALPS switches have tabs. - $0
Oh, and I guess I spent postage to trade the 'x' key on my AT101W with Computer-Lab in Basement's, after an accident with a soldering iron.
Total spent on keyboards is probably $20, then ($18 on a terminal + $2 on mailing a key).
