[IC] [SP] PBT DSA linux operating system keycaps
« on: Fri, 17 October 2014, 17:25:28 »
i've just launched my first interest check over at Pimpmykeyboard.
The idea is that we'll release some operating system keys (size 1.25) to work together with white keysets and with the granite keysets so fanatic Linux and BSD users everywhere can enjoy their GNU freedom through their keyboards.

This is an interesting project. Hope you know that there are copyright issues that you must take care of. SP will not make those key caps if you don't have that covered :thumb:
So make sure you read the terms for each logo before you go any further, otherwise people will get excited about getting some caps and SP will tell that they won't do it because of the copyright.
I know this first hand, I ran Debian and Vim GB's

Yup, for the fedora logo you'll need to ask for permission https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal:Trademark_guidelines#Non-software_goods

For the Red Hat logo, see http://www.redhat.com/f/pdf/corp/RH-3573_284204_TM_Gd.pdf :

« The Red Hat “Shadowman” logo is also a registered trademark
of Red Hat, Inc. It may not be used on any products without
Red Hat’s express written permission. The only way to obtain
permission to use Red Hat’s “Shadowman” logo is by entering
into a written license agreement with Red Hat, Inc., signed by
both Red Hat and the licensee or by qualifying under or
complying with the “Trademark Permissions” set forth in these
Guidelines. Absolutely no exceptions. If you are a publisher
of software, books, t-shirts or any other products, you may not
use the Red Hat “Shadowman” logo unless you have entered
into a written agreement with Red Hat that allows you to do so
or you qualify for use under the “Trademark Permissions”.
[...] You should contact tmlicense@redhat.com, and we will discuss
possible arrangements with you »

However, it's worth asking them, especially as it does not cost you much. I can help with this if you want.

Also for Ubuntu and Arch you need aproval. Debian is free tu use, but only the Swirl check the web site for each distro for details.
For Slack I'm sure Pat would be OK just make sure to ask, he is a cool guy

Gentoo keys would be cool. Any hope for something like FreeBSD?

EDIT: I couldn't see the BSD ones on mobile.. I see them now.

I'd be interested in this if everything works out on RHEL :)
