I imagine most modern laptop keyboards have very short key travel; it's necessary to make them as thin as possible these days.
Have you ever typed on an HP laptop before? I did for over two years and, not only is the travel very short, but the amount of force required to actuate each key is ridiculously light. It's almost like typing on a keyboard hologram--virtually no tactile feedback whatsoever sans bottoming-out. Because of it, I can't really type on heavy switches. Hell, even Browns feel heavy for me.
Anyway, welcome to GeekHack.
