Windows 7 vs Windows 8 Logo on Keycaps
« on: Mon, 27 October 2014, 06:55:04 »
Hello. This time it'll be a straight forward contest.

In the best possible colour configurations, which of the two do you prefer?

Windows 8 vs Windows 7:

Be creative, imagine both in different colours/configurations. Would the Windows 8 logo look good in orange?

Let's hear it  :thumb:

P.S. I know many people prefer blanks, but let's keep this contest between these two.

Edit: Windows 8 Dolch set credits go to GSimon, full picture post here
Windows 7 Skidata/Charred orange set credits go to JaccoW, full picture post here.

Enjoy, people :)

the Win 8 logo is superior imo. Win 7 logo is exactly the same as Win XP (i.e. oudated), and it just looks wrong without the correct colors for each windowpane

edit: Win 8 in orange.. not that good but still better than Win 7 orange

Windows 8 all the way. Get with the times people!
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

W8. I'm all for nostalgia (old Commodore for example) but the old Windows logo is just that... Old.

Personally I'd rather something other than the Windows logo; some kind of novelty key, since I use Linux, but if I had to choose I definitely prefer the Windows 8 logo.

I prefer the Win 8 logo, but for some retro sets such as White with Grey mods I would prefer the old-school Win 7 one.

Now that I think of it, the Win 8 logo works best in high contrast setting such as the Dolch colour pack you see here.

P.s. I know that second pic is mine but whose picture is the other one? Always make sure you give credit to people by name. Less drama that way. ;)

I'm going to have to agree with most of the people so far and say that the Win 8 logo is better looking.
Without the wave that Win 7 has, it just looks a bit more neutral to me - like it would fit in better in most situations.

Oh I forgot to say that a lot of times the W7 logo is printed so small you can't glance at the KB and tell what it is.

Definitely, I have that set too, and everyone brings up a very good point that Win 8 is crisper and has better contrast :P

Also, good point on assigning credit by name, I've edited it :)

Oh I forgot to say that a lot of times the W7 logo is printed so small you can't glance at the KB and tell what it is.

Hmm, that is another good point! I used to prefer W7 over W8, but after really taking the time to look at it, I feel the W8 just pops out a bit more at me.

it just looks wrong without the correct colors for each windowpane

This

It took a while to get it right, then they start screwing it up again.

If colors are not allowed, then the 8 one is probably better.

“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Windows 7 is nicer. I can't stand the depth perspective on the 8, if all the other characters on the keyboard had the same perspective it would be fine, but imo they should have made the logo a flat square. Would've matched the OS better as well, like everything is flat but the logo isn't? Just looks out of place to me.

Hey my pic is in the OP, cool :) (link to gallery: http://imgur.com/a/r0lQe )

Windows 8 logo for me all the way. Feels cleaner, less retro, which in this case is good since Windows 7 logo is too similar to Vista -cringe- and I don't like reminiscing those days.

Plus Windows 8/8.1 is actually good, can't say I've felt the need to revert to Windows 7, and I actually miss the start menu when I'm not on Windows 8.

I've never liked the Windows logo on keycaps, but at least the W8 logo looks decent. Still prefer a blank keycap, or something non-Windows entirely.

Putting corporate logos on keyboards is really lame. Stick something more fun on there. (Or if you want to keep things simple, I suggest “Command”, “Meta”, or “Super”)

I prefer the Mac logos :p
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
