Ideas for a crazy keyboard.
« on: Mon, 27 October 2014, 20:42:00 »
Hey guys, I have a beat up pokerX that really isn't worth anything, so I figured I may as well pimp it out as wild as I can.

The current plan is to get some rainbow keycaps, and paint the case either yellow, purple, or pink.

I'm just trying to think of other wild and crazy ideas to make this thing really stand out.

Full LED mod

It has the pins for it underneath but I believe they are not wired, so you will have to wire up the entire LED matrix under there yourself. It'd look awesome.

And choose LED colours to match the keycaps so they emphasise the rainbow effect :D

Test the LED's first to select resistors to match the LED brightnesses across the colour range. A fair bit of work, but would really make it.... unique.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

AFAIK it wouldn't work that well. I'd have to jump off one of the existing LED's, and every led you add the brightness goes down, so once its all said and done, it would be super dim.

Get rainbow caps that have the same profile per color - so the height of the caps changes across the board.

You know what would really be crazy?

Dude, if I still lived with my parents and had a weekend of free time, I would make myself a wooden poker case. Worst thing about moving across the state and getting my own place was saying goodbye to all my shop tools.

Make it so that there is no switch that is the same or even similar to its adjacent switches.

if you wired it up right there would be no brighness issue. LED in series with resistor, and led-resistor parts are all in parallel with 5v (or LED control) and gnd.

Hey, nothing personal they probably don't want you to visit but that doesn't mean you can't! Haha.

Stay a weekend, create a keyboard case. Sounds like a good visit to me.

This.  Giving up a bunch of tools would be rough.

I do have a dremel though, thinking of chopping the bottom out of the case and seeing if I can replace it with a acrylic window. I just want to make the most out there keyboard that I can think of.
