Filco Tenkeypad freezes with Linux
« on: Wed, 29 October 2014, 10:09:45 »
Hi!
Today I got my Filco Tenkeypad and plugged it on my Linux machine (running Crunchbang Linux, so it's Debian Wheezy with Openbox).

The Keypad doesn't work: Beeing not in NumLock-Mode, the arrow-keys are working fine. Beeing in NumLock and trying to type a number, the keypad freezes after the first press (but the key that is pressed, is interpreted correctly).

I googled for this issue and found this thread:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/304098/filco-majestouch-tenkeypad-not-working-in-13-04

... but there is no solution for me. Any ideas how to get it running?

Ubuntu 12.04 here. I have experienced the same problem a few days ago.

I wanted to use a number keypad to control a program that would accept only that, so I plugged the Filco alongside my Realforce 87U (TKL).

It froze all the time and I had to disconnect it, and then it froze again... I did not have the time to troubleshoot it, so I just dumped the Filco and activated the numpad option on the Realforce.

This Filco numpad also causes trouble on my Mac, some keys causing the numpad to autorepeat endlessly and then you have to disconnect it.

For a while, I have used this numpad on the Mac with key stoppers that prevented me from pressing the keys that caused problems, this way I could use it.

But I've got tired of it because I almost never really need the numpad.

Sorry, I know I'm not telling you how to solve your problem, but at least you know it's not a hardware failure with your device.

If you ever find a solution, I would be interested.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I just tried the tenkeypad at my Macbook Air (/2013) and it is nearly the same issue: There are some keys more functional, but the "=" sign (the key in the very right upper corner) causes a freeze, too.

Thats not nice at all ... so I will try to test it with an KUbunutu 14. Live DVD... I'll tell you about the result later.

Hi,

I contacted the reseller of the TenKeyPad. He told me, that the description of the product was wrong: It is Windows only.

I never heard about a Keyboard beeing Win-only ... however. I'll send it back and get my money back.

It means they have no idea how to help you.

It must work with linux one way or the other. There must be a solution out there.

Well - that's true: My Filco TKL Ninja runs on Linux (Crunchbang ... Debian) like a sharm. It seems to depend on the product.

Yes I know, both of my Filcos TKL works without any problem under linux.

The problem affects only the numpads, but it's lame of Diatec to say that their products only work on Windows. It's like telling GTFO to linux and Mac users.

So we take notice. I know I do.

What about ndiswrapper

The last time I used it, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, ndiswrapper allowed you to use Windows wifi drivers under linux.

What does it have to do with our problem?

That's what you get for using proprietary keyboards.

GNU Tenkey coming soon (right after GNU Hurd).
