CMStorm Quick Fire Rapid "2" ???
« on: Fri, 10 February 2012, 09:48:03 »
Hi there geeks,

I'm currently looking for a mechanical keyboard (red switches) which has a tenkeyless format, german key layout and preferably backlight.
I came up with the CMStorm Quick Fire Rapid Red but it is still not available in europe.
So I contacted a big hardware seller here in germany asking about a release date for the german version of it. I got this answer:

"Bezüglich Ihrer Anfrage möchten wir Ihnen mitteilen, dass die Tastatur laut
unserem Einkauf so nicht auf den Deutschen Markt kommen wird.

Der Plan von CM Storm für Tastaturen sieht im Moment folgendermaßen aus:
März: Launch der Trigger (NTZV2A)
April: Quick Fire Pro
Juni: Quick Fire Rapid 2 (überarbeitete Version der Quick Fire Rapid)"

Which means that the red version of the Quick Fire Rapid will not be released as it is in germany, but further they are saying something about a Quick Fire Rapid 2.
So I contacted the european CMStorm support directly asking for details about the "second or new version" of this keyboard. They told me this:

"We do not know much about the quick fire rapid 2 yet so please keep an eye on the CM Storm Website."

So I got quite curious about it. Is it maybe a backlit version of the keyboard? Would be the perfect board for me then.

Do you know anything about this new verison of the board?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Shixxor

I believe it will be the CM Storm Trigger(full-size BL keyboard).

Even if it aren't, I believe it won't be a TKL CM Rapid Fire with BL or available anytime soon(as even the trigger took years and still haven being marketed)

Hm... Revised version with additional logotips? Cause it's still not enough for me actually.

Since this is your first post, welcome to Geekhack.  And you might wanna PM CoolerMaster rep named Carter about that QFR2 (link).  He's also a member here and may know something about it....   or maybe not. lol

Well I would really like to see a full keyboard version  of the quickfire rapid. This is a superb keyboard for its price.

Well, if they are targeting gamers, I don't think Poker-size is exactly the way to go, personally.  Some gamers would be happy, but I think most would feel inconvenienced by that kind of layout.  HOWEVER, I have no idea what it could be, so you could be right...  My guess would be something like the Rapid but maybe with other features (USB ports or something like that) or a slight redesign.  I'm very curious, though, because I'm personally happy with the current Quickfire. :)

This is good, because neither of those seem as nice as the Rapid. I hope the Rapid2 comes out as nice as the original (minus some excessive branding of course).

oooOOOoo  I want to know about this as well!  Fantastic lil'board!  I was fortunate to get my hands on the Red version (without the chinese characters) a couple of months ago and absolutely loved it.  Wished it had slightly better stock keycaps but other than that I think it's probably the best value for money Costar stablised board out there!  So if there's a Rapid 2, I'm all ears!

I don't mind whatever version or name is, we need backlit tenkeyless board in the market.

"real project"? Detachable macros key pad? Detachable full color lcd screen? or mix switches?

Please be a backlit tenkeyless! I would kill at least 10 children under the age of 5 as sacrifice in order to get my hands on a backlit tenkeyless keyboard with MX reds. Or even better, make a CM Storm version of the KBT Race. Market the small form factor towards RTS/MMO gamers saying the smaller travel distance between keys will increase your APM. I bet that'll be a hit product.

I'm shocked.  I will jump off my balcony if it's a backlit QuickFire Rapid with other small changes, since I just bought a QuickFire Rapid.

Soooo I take it it's a bad shock?  lol I just took it that you'll jump off your balcony 'cause you'd be overcome by happiness and joy!

Would be interesting to see what they have planned... Hopefully it'll be better than the "Pro"stitute they're planning to release...

I actually prefer non backlit. There are too many awesome keycaps that aren't specifically designed for backlit keyboards.

I personally don't like backlit either, so I will be happy to have my non-backlit versions if that's the case.  However, if they make one and people buy it, I'll be happy for them. :)

Exactly! Why all custom keycap don't really works good on backlit keyboard?
Couldn't be another color of paint apply to ABS keys instead of black?
Any way we can remove the keycap stem to let the light goes thru?
Instead of laser out letters, we can laser out graphics?
Oh.. maybe too expensive ...
Sorry for my vent

Either I'm misunderstanding or Sweden isn't in Europe, but here is a link to the CMStorm Quickfire Rapid RED. It looks different from the old version, so I'm guessing this is the new one? The fact that the old one is in stock, while the "new" one has undefined delivery date, only proves it more I guess? I guess CM support aren't that big on geography or they simply sent keyboards to Sweden by mistake:p

Furthermore, it seems to be backlit, yet none of the keycaps actually shine, so I'm confused. Is it just a glow around the keys?

edit: Upon checking at CM USA website, the red seems to simply be a red steel plate (that I guess they made super-glowy for advertisement$s sake).

apparently thats the US/international version in the shop, probably imported. i was just telling you what the customer support told me. No EU version of the keyboard. The red "glow" is actually just a red plastic plate below the keys :D not so much visible anymore when you actually have it in front of you. Power of photoshop :)

That's just the one with red switches and a red plate.  They went overboard trying to show that it has a red plate so it looks lit.  It's the same old version tho.

Actually, here is another swedish online retailer that sells the version with red switches. It clearly states "language layout: Nordic". So I'm guessing the pictures are just advertisement material. So if it indeed does come with a nordic layout, I would guess a german isn't impossible? You could get the nordic layout otherwise I guess, just swap the y and z key and learn to live with the å ä ö :p
