Hey GH!
« on: Thu, 11 December 2014, 10:05:55 »
Hey everyone,

My name is Ben, and I'm a newcomer to the mech keyboard community. I'm an amateur web developer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I've always been into quality keyboards. I've been a fan of the Model M in particular for years, but never owned any until pretty recently. I want to expand my collection and get some Cherry MX, Alps, and Topre keyboards in the future.

I've been through various forums across the interwebs as well as running one of my own, and in my short time here I can say that Geekhack seems to be one of the best I've seen yet! I look forward to being a part of it. :)

Welcome to GH!

You've come to the right place to expand your collection!  Don't forget it's nicknamed WalletHack for a reason. :p

Welcome to Geekhack!

Model Ms are nice - I have two, although I'd like an SSK.

Also Unicomp still make buckling spring keyboards almost identical to the Model M, albeit with Windows and Menu keys.  And built-in USB.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
