Oh and for any fans of TDTE, I've been finding Frontierer to be a pretty great substitute, basically the same sound.

No offense taken.  Most days it actually takes a lot to ruffle my feathers.  I think my favorite CD I have was probably my Master of Puppets on 24k gold CD.  That or the two cds from Disinter that my dad picked up for me when he was working with the bassist.  Both my dad and the bassist from that group were millwrights by trade.  I kept the cds but never really got to that level of metal/growling stuff.  Not hating on it, just never cared for it.  The only music I really hate on is rap.

Huh, first CD I ever bought was Dookie as well.  Then I let somebody borrow it and they never returned it, which sucked.

I also used to have a bunch of Metallica CDs but when I was in high school, at a Christian high school btw, these was a "revivial" during my Sophomore year where all the kids got rid of their secular music and when I didn't get rid of mine, so my friend took them out of my backpack and broke them all.  I was upset.

I don't have the case or the booklet, which had a typo that wasn't in the regular production CD booklet.  In the song lyrics of Master Of Puppets, there is a missing s in construction.  The booklet and case didn't survive the flood of 2008 that hit Iowa.  The cd survived though.  Not quite sure where it is now as I have moved since the last I saw it, but it is around somewhere.  I did manage to save my VHS version of the Live ****: Binge and Purge box set.  Not sure where my stencil when to though.  That has been missing for years.

To echo what people have already said.  Thread.  +1

My journey into "metal" started as a kids really, my dad introduced me to sabbath, purple, zepplin and it pretty much moved on form there.

As a child i would listen to bands like Maiden, Wasp, Saxon, Def Leppard, Guns n Roses in my early youth 12+.

It really took traction when i was a teenager and saw slipknot on TV (tgi friday for the brits), the energy on display made me curious and i purchased their self titled album. I'd discovered what was being branded as Nu-Metal - now older and wiser? I have a very wide range of muscial taste but my heart will always be with metal.

My go to bands

Slipknot
Mudvayne
Bullet for my Valentine
Metallica
Guns n Roses
IWRESTLEDABEARONCE
Maiden
Disturbed
Godsmack
Killswitch

Theres a lot more that rattle around in my head and on my spotify playlist.

I'll certainly be harvesting this thread for science and hopefully introduce myself to new sounds.

H

Edit -

Having gone through all the posts now one by one.

I cant believe how many bands I knew, not only knew but also listen to frequently.

Its like going nose deaf but with music.....

Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, Meshuggah, SOAD, A7X, Rage against the machine, snot, Anthrax, Bio-hazard, Coal Chamber.. a lot..

In Flames

They used to be my end-all-be-all band. I'd see them every time they were in NJ/NY/PA. I could play all their songs on guitar, I'd sit and play along to an album front to back... But after their latest releases, especially the newest and them going full "KoRn" style, I can't even listen to them anymore. It's depressing. :(

I'm not really a fan of "classic" metal. I'm more of metal soundtracks and metal covers fan. For example:

Although I also really enjoy Rammstein and some nu metal tracks :) .

I am a big fan of Clayman and The Jester Race but I haven't listened to any of their stuff past Come Clarity as my interest was waning as more albums came out, kinda like Children of Bodom.

I have long been a partaker of music of the djent/prog/metalcore variety. Instrumental or otherwise. Too many bands to list.

I'm seeing mentions of BOO on this thread. I must ask, anyone else catching the Sumerian Records 10 Year Tour? I'm too excited for that lineup. Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After the Burial, Erra, The Endeavor, and Bad Omens. I'm ready to get several posters signed and added to my wall.

I haven't seen Drudkh mentioned thus far, so here it is. A very influential atmospheric-black-metal band from Ukraine, with some historical lyrics.

Well many of my favorites have been mentioned (Maiden, The Black Dahlia Murder, Between the Buried and Me, Darkest Hour). But I don't see Allaegeon, Rivers of Nihil, Power Trip, Mindset, or No Warning :D. OH AND I FORGOT ABOUT REVOCATION.

I definitely consider myself a metalhead before anything else and I try to see as many concerts as I can get to. I only hit like 20 last year and I've passed up 4 already this year because of work :(.

Where do you usually go to see them?  Do you travel far or wait for stuff to come to within a couple hour radius of you?  I have seen a few in Detroit, a few in Grand Rapids, and a few in Chicago but none anywhere else.

God damn Revocation is awesome. When their album Deathless came out I think I listened to "Labyrinth of Eyes" on repeat for days straight.

Have car will travel for shows. I try not to drive more than 2 hours if I'm trying to get back to work the next day. But if work isn't an issue? I don't mind driving. But I see a lot of local bands and smaller bands. In Cincinnati, we get a decent amount of shows and it helps I know the promoters in town. But Columbus, Indy, and Louisville all provide great options as well. I really enjoy shows in Columbus.

That was me when Invidious dropped. I had that banjo section on repeat :)).

So for whoever has signed up for Protest the Hero's bandcamp thing, how have you been liking the new music? I've absolutely loved all three songs so far, I think Ragged Tooth is still my favorite (but Cold Water is a close second). I also really love that they're doing different art for each release (all of which has been great).

I'm loving it. The tunes are great and I love the subscription system. Their documentary about Volition is amazing too. I think I enjoyed that as much or more than the tunes.
