Hello geekhack, here is the interest check for GMK plastic bags! Please let me know in the thread if this is a good idea for shipping new keysets.
Reasons
- Cost less than GMK trays
- Cheaper to ship
- Easier to open than GMK trays
- Protect keycaps well -- LEGO uses plastic bag for their ABS bricks
- Can fit arbitrary number of keys
- Less impact on the environment than plastic trays

Yes please
-
They look a little small for sets that have many add ons and space bars. That said, I always prefer bags over trays.
I also thought reading the title this would be a meme keyset lol

We are going backwards.
-
Can we please get the ones that work for ISO? I know only 14 people in the world use ISO and it might increase the cost of these bags for everyone but I’m thinking it’s worth it.

Agreed. Also I have to disagree that trays are worse for the environment than bags. I'm sure it's worse on the environment to produce the trays vs bags, but I can guarantee you way more of those bags will end up in landfills than the trays.

can confirm. would fit lego.
-
How about just small cardboard boxes then?
-
We definetely need a new way to package keycaps but this ain't it chief

Here I was thinking this thread would be a plastic bag themed GMK set.

Tested and I can assure you that it fits ISO

I sorta like the trays so I can pop the thing open and very quickly see that all keys are present, vs getting an SA set and
trying to figure out what key they haven't sent me this ***ing time doing the same.
-
Also, and this is the absolute key: what's it gonna save? if it saved 20$ (which it won't), a lotta people would be game. at 3$, I bet most everyone wants the tray. like splitting out keys into their own sets, this would really benefit from data and pricing estimates.

I would also consider brown paper boxes/bags

A large LEGO set comes with many small bags within it. We could do the same too

I wouldn't have any issue with an all cardboard shipping/storage solution. Maxkeys uses pretty nice cardboard boxes for their sets, switch out the two plastic trays they included to hold the caps for something made out of cardboard as well & that would be a winner IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I do get where the OP is coming from & agree that that keycaps can be shipped/stored in much more eco friendly packaging. My big gripes with bags is they don't protect the caps & they are a terrible way to store them. Also like I mentioned before, many more people would chuck the bags in the garbage than would throw away a tray.

GMK offers various sizes. The largest one I've seen can fit a TON of spacebars. Think similar to a gallon ziplock but it's a little over the length of a spacebar in width

I want each keycap individually bagged please.

i know this is a joke but now i want to get a bunch of custom tape and plastic bags printed up
