GMK Umka
Following picture displays GMK Umka from GMK Carbon R2 and does not represent the final product due to the row difference.

Hello everyone!

This is an interest check for GMK Umka, which was introduced as a subset of GMK Carbon R2. Since then i got few requests to run it again and here i am doing this small run to provide that opportunity. I do not plan any novelties nor child kits. This will stay as a single base kit.

Group buy information:
  • GB time frame: February
  • Profile: Cherry
  • Material: ABS
  • Rows: 1-1-2-3-4-4

Vendors:

Base kit

Renders or photos will be added in the future.

This set was done long before Sixes and actually Sixes is inspired (stock colors) by Umka.

Any chance of adding 1.75u R2 (backspace), 1.25u R3 (tab), 1.5u R3 (enter) to the base kit for barebones 40s support?

Not sure if yall are memeing, but Umka was introduced back with GMK Carbon R2 in July 2018. Sixes was introduced over a year after that, and had been paused / frozen for almost 9 months before the November update.

I had zero interest in GMK Sixes (had to google it just now). It has horrible kitting and it's derivative x 2. No thanks.

GMK Umka's base set is perfect to me. T0mb3ry knocked it out of the park with this one.

I'd like to keep R0/R5 unique for GMK Carbon R2. That said i am huge fan of R0/R5 and i would love to see more custom keyboards with steeper angle like duck is doing.

"No" is trademarket by Zambumon. Can't use without the license ;)

I would have made some novelties if i had good idea for it. Like always i am picky in this case. Rolling bones do not match this theme here as well :/

Also you have the Umka mods from GMK Carbon R2. If i had novelties kit, then i could not support the R0/R5 rows. For example i could not support it in GMK Boneyard ;)

I do not plan any novelties nor child kits. This will stay as a single base kit.

Group buy information:
  • GB time frame: February

There’s no form to fill out, you’ve stated upfront that you aren’t changing kits and are running this in a month, and as another commenter joked, you just say no to any feedback/requests. How are you expecting to gauge “interest”? Count comments on this post?

I’ve seen you take this approach before, and it apparently works for you, but this isn’t an IC, it’s an ad. Just call it what it is.

There is no rule which describes what an interest check needs to have. This here is an interest check. Because it represents here my project and thus try to gauge the interest. Purpose solved.

Of course you can make suggestions or ask for keys you would love to see. But it does not mean i have to include those in my project.

I’m just saying there’s no form, there’s one mock up with no renders, and only one vendor. You’re established so apparently you get a pass, but less well-known folks here regularly get excoriated for lackluster ICs that have more than this.

Like I said, this ad-posing-as-an-IC approach works for you, so you do you. But you posted it, so that’s my feedback.

Renders and vendors will come in the future as i said.

This is not a big project, i would love to do, but more of an opportunity for people to get their hands on Umka as it was quite expensive but desired in GMK Carbon R2 (Umka mods were sold for 170$). Thus i'd like to keep it as small as possible. This is actually the trend in other ICs for GMK sets as you can see.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with this IC. Some people choose to IC with a turn key item, others post an IC with just a mere idea.

The ICs that get flamed are usually missing something that's key (no renders and/or no real kitting, unrealistic expectations, etc.)

I am going to have to agree with this. Many IC's have had this amount of material, maybe more, and get spammed with Krelbit copy pasta lol. On top of that, not sure why this advertisement gets a pass since Olivia++ was locked for being essentially an advertisement as well. It doesn't really bother me but this kind of inconsistency in standards is what we can come to expect with a forum with absolutely no formal guidelines on how to structure posts.

As for the set. It's pretty palatable. Will look good on most things. Kitting makes it pretty accessible as well.

I think I came off harsh on Sixes. I don't like broken-down kits, but there are many who do.
This large base kit will certainly be more expensive, but it's what I prefer.

I'm really glad consumers will have options.
With the way the community has been recently, even if Umka and Sixes ran at the same time, I could see both sets making MOQ without problem, especially depending on vendors.

Indeed better would have been if i had asked also for the "Old School" rows (1-1-2-3-4-5).

Anyway you can't mess up 65% with R0 because R0 is used only on the F-row. The number row is still R1.

You all nitpicking IC vs. advertisement:

When you successfully run as many GBs as T0mb3ry, you don’t need to broadly collect interest or demonstrate an ability to complete a project. People DM you feedback, or you’re constantly discussing ideas with other designers.

This is GMK Umka, a re-run from a cornerstone set. This isn’t something someone whipped up, inspired by furniture, during the pandemic (read: me ;) ). Umka has been a thing for 2.5 years at this point. Umka mods flip hard on MM. I don’t know that the lack of a Google Form here means it’s a half-baked project.

If newer designers get spammed with Krelbit’s copypasta it’s because running a keyset GB requires organization and effort. The onus falls on the runner to demonstrate it in their IC. When you have a track record, you can demonstrate it as evidence of organization and effort. This is no different than a job, in that regard.

Anyway, count me in for traditional Cherry. I prefer 1-1-2-3-4-5 myself after using OG doubleshots, and I only use ASCII on F-row less boards.

hell yeah, base kit looking good, looking forward to this!
I wanted Umka in Carbon R2 but could not justify the price then. Now a fullset but no R0/R5 so I'll pass once again. GL!
