Howdy, how yall doin?

I been buildin up a gentoo gaming/coding/workstation rig and it's time for me to choose a good keyboard.

i5 - 3570k
240gb vertex 3
8gb 2400mhz ripjaws
asus 24qe 144hz monitor
tachyon platinum 550w modular psu
a totally crappy dell keyboard i got for 1.99 at goodwill
(it seriously hurts my hands to use this for long durations!)

I'm currently leaning towards a ducky shining II with RED switches.
Is that a good choice? Well, of course it is - but - I'm interested in the /best/ choice (for me.)

I could see maybe going with an ergo keybord instead of the shining II...
Currently, while gaming, I have my keyboard tilted about 15 degrees. Works fine but only when using the keyboard one handed.

Anywho, I'm going to go lurk about some review threads.

Thanks for reading, I'll be around and popping by IRC from time to time.

There are some peripheral hardware projects I want to work on in the future, also, that I could use some feedback on. Including haptic feedback for linear switches using an Arm Cortex to drive a piezo/terfenol-d element.. More on that later.

Cheers,

ATP.Virus

Sorry if I have missed this, but what will you be using the keyboard for? Gaming, Typing. Give them as percentages towards eachother please, so 40/60 or something, unless you are certain you want red switches :D
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I am certain that I want a light linear switch. I will be spending a lot of time gaming and typing code. Not much time  transcribing or anything that requires high WPM.

I got a sample pack of the four main MX switches. The blues intrigued me. I could see desoldering  a few select reds like esc and return to be replaced with blues. Overall, I like the linear action.

I even experimented with swapping the springs around and trying a bit of ball point pen spring.

The lighter springs are better for me. I'm not yet sure what I think about the dampening washers but that's something that's relatively easy to play around with.

I could conceivably be talked into topre. Unfortunately the sample pack I got didn't include any of those.

Thanks for your consideration.

Kind regards,

ATP.Virus

Another couple questions...

Is tigerimports.net a good bet for purchasing a ducky shining? Other sources?

Will I have to enter that annoying captcha /every/ time I want to post?

I can answer some questions not all though, others will help you out.
Capatcha no.

You like blues but they are too loud? You can fit o-rings, about 5$ per 100 to make them quieter.

Hope this helps :)

I think the captcha is for the first 15 or 35 posts or something like that.
