Great idea! Unfortunately I'm overseas and my own collection is only something around 50 to 80 records but will hope you sent lots of vinyl-porn pics of records you get :thumb:

So if we gave it to each other we would 69. No homo.
Wow, there are a lot of different color variants of that LP! Mah gerrrd, gotta add to the wishlist.
im all over this, i spend roughly 100% of my money on vinyl sadly haha
So, is this mostly young folks looking for current stuff?
I have a couple of boxes of records that I would sell, but it is almost all 1960s-70s rock and jazz.
PS - my tastes are not mainstream

Here are some terrible phone photos of my 7" collection for now...
(Attachment Link) (Attachment Link) (Attachment Link)
Many of which are color, or have something else interesting... but I will wait until I have something better to take pictures with before going into more detail and all my 12".
Collection is so small these days, used to have 100s...
Maybe one day.
7" are not just singles necessarily... especially when you are talking punk there can be several songs on them. On the opposite side, I do have some 12" singles as well... which I do find to be much more pointless. I even had one once that had the same song on both sides, not even different version or anything.I have a flexi that is made of a very thin plastic, probably vinyl. This one is paper. Thick paper.
I bet that Foo Fighters is what is more commonly known as a flexi. I have a few of those, including one from an old band I was in where I had to hunt a LOT to find a factory that still made them. They used to be found given away in magazines and things like that quite a bit. Sadly they usually don't sound very good and they wear out fairly rapidly if you play them more than occasionally.
My tiny collection. I used to have a He-Man as well but gave it to a friend. I no longer have my record player. :'(

The record itself isn't a work of art like some of the ones in this thread, but the B-side is my favourite song of all. In fact, I bought a turntable just so that I could listen to this song on vinyl. Is that a Pro-ject table?

Gold and White vinyl. Haven't listened yet tho.
I don't have proper pics yet, but the rarest Vinyl I have is this;Thats a pretty cool looking vinyl. I'm assuming it's a picture disk correct? Or did they somehow press vinyl into that hand shape. From what I know, that wouldn't be possible. Mos Def has one of his records pressed in that style with grey stars on black vinyl. I was looking at getting one of their Debut Carbon Esprit tables. The one with the acrylic platter. But then I fixed my old Dual 721. One day I'll get it but I'm happy to save the money for now.Is that a Pro-ject table?Yeah, Essential II

But it's my dad's old table and for now it will do just fine.
I replaced the stylus when I restored it. The cartridge likely needs replacing. But it's working for now. Carts can get pretty expensive. It's tracking fine and not skating at all so everything is set up and functioning as it should except for the auto start stop. The switch is stripped so I opened it up and disabled that part of the internals. So it's technically only semi auto now with the arm being the only thing that I can lift and set with a lever. Placing the stylus on the leading edge of the record is still up to me physically pushing it over. But it's my dad's old table and for now it will do just fine.
Make sure that you have a good cartridge with a clean undamaged stylus.
Dual turntables are great until they start to wear out, but then they are all but impossible to repair or rehab.
I wash dirty records with a hot soapy sponge in the kitchen sink, 5% of labels will have a problem with it.
TCC 750 or 760 is a very good little preamp at a very reasonable price.
Got some Bill Cosby comedy albums. Let's have a drink to celebrate. ^-^Yea but...what's in the drink? Puddin'? Like when he's puddin' his **** where it don't belong? Haha. He's still funny tho.

One of my favorite artists releases their albums on vinyl, yet they only do quite limited runs that sell out quickly. I have regretted not getting some of their earlier vinyls because after I finish uni I plan to get a nice vinyl player, and the vinyls are no longer easily available. Today I received their most recent album on vinyl, which is my first vinyl, and just a showpiece for now! :)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/3aMnEqh.jpg)

I'm getting into this hobby, just bought the Audio Technica turntableI think Halverson has the Audioengine A5+ monitors if I remember correctly. They seem like pretty good little speakers for the price in my opinion.
not sure if this is the right place to ask, I'm thinking to pair the turntable with Audioengine A5+, is it a good idea?

I used to have that All Shall Perish shirt that said "WORST F*CKING DUDE" on it haha.
I read something about cassette tapes earlier in this thread :)) : http://i.imgur.com/AAd7sBr.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/AAd7sBr.jpg) Yes, I do actually still have a cassette deck and do listen to some of these from time to time.
Hi everyone, HoffmanMyster recommended me to this thread, as he saw some records in the background of an unrelated picture I posted on another thread. I wasn't really sure where to start, so I just took some potato-quality shots of my related collection and equipment and I'm just going to introduce myself from here!
I slowly started collecting vinyl records a couple of decades ago. My dad has a huge collection of records and he used to listen to them regularly while I was still growing up with him. That's where the bug originally bit me. I don't really focus on any particular genre, I really like a lot of music. I've devoted a lot of my time over the last 5 years searching for jazz records from the late 50's through the 70's (mainly Bop and its sub genres) but most of the records in my collection are still rock. I also have a small handful of electronic and hip-hop records, as well as a few classical and country albums. I'll admit, I have a weakness for colored vinyl pressings. About 2 years ago, I started gigging as a DJ at a local bar, mostly spinning 60's Bebop once every couple of weeks. That gave me a good excuse to buy even more equipment. Unfortunately, I am currently on hiatus from the DJ thing.
Here is the money shot of my primary collection: http://i.imgur.com/0JgAzJj.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/0JgAzJj.jpg) In total, I have a little over 1000 records.
This is the overflow collection that currently lives in my kitchen, of all places: http://i.imgur.com/qZoXnFV.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/qZoXnFV.jpg) Just above it is my backup amplifier (a Pioneer SX-3700) and one of my backup turntables (a Sony PS-X75)
Most of my 7" collection: http://i.imgur.com/fe19rUi.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/fe19rUi.jpg)
The rest of my 7" records, and a few 10" (and one 9"!) just to the right: http://i.imgur.com/qDIQ1Lm.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/qDIQ1Lm.jpg)

This is my other primary turntable. The holy grail of all turntables, a direct drive Technics SL-1200 MK2: http://i.imgur.com/6pafpuU.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/6pafpuU.jpg) This unit also comes with me for DJ gigs.
This is my other DJ turntable, a direct drive Stanton T.92: http://i.imgur.com/wz1wVDk.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/wz1wVDk.jpg)

Thank you for reading and sorry for the crap pictures, it's kind of dark in my house right now.
Awesome post! Wow, you've got quite the collection. :D
What are your favorite records to spin?
HEY YOU GUYS!
Do any of you use Discogs database?
I'm a big fan of it. I've used it to purchase many records. I have a collection but only a fraction of my records are recorded in it. Here is my link: http://www.discogs.com/user/fletchermunson/collection (http://www.discogs.com/user/fletchermunson/collection)
I would so love to join this club! I started collecting vinyl a few years ago when I got interested in vinyl DJ-ing, ironically I had no money for a technics so I just collected thrift store albums that looked cool, or old 80's or 90's bands I happened to know.
After a trip to vegas this year in the summer, I wagered $400 on red at a roullette table and voila! Finally enough money for a technics and other necessities (decent speakers, mixer/preamp) one thing I didnt end up getting, was some legit needles. I got some crappy audio technica ones that the record store had on hand. And now after a month or two of listening to my beautiful vinyl, the entire right channel is static-y. After messing around woth the speakers and multiple records, Im lead to believe its the crappy needle that gave out.
Does anyone happen to have an extra decent brand needle cartridge they could sell me?
Im on vacation in chicago this weekend but Ill post pics of my modest collection and setup for yall when I get back home to florida!

I don't think I have a cart to sell atm, but I do have recommendations to contribute with! The Technics SL-1200 is a great turntable for both DJ-ing and hifi use, and if you aim to use it for both things I'd say go for Ortofon OM or Concorde series. Then you just change the stylus depending on records and use, and get better styli in either direction depending how your interests develop.
For example, you could get the OM10 cartridge for like $50 and have a decent hifi cart. To make it an entry level dj cart, just get a Pro S stylus for like $25, swap styli and turn the stylus force up from 1.75 to 3 grams.
Love that carry case Zanduby, whered you get that? Also, since you mix a little, could you recommend some decent cartridges/needles for a little mixing and a lot of listening?
Alright I want to collect vinyls too and my girlfriend would love to get a record player.
What would be the best record player.
Preferably one that I can hook up to my speaker system I have on my desk atm.

I've just started the vinyl thing a couple of months back
I've done a lot of research regarding what's the best price/performance turntable and speaker combo
and apparently the Audio Technica (http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP120-USB-Direct-Drive-Professional-Turntable/dp/B002S1CJ2Q) suits my budget, I paired it with Audioengine A5+ and it's been serving me very well since

Carry case was bought at a local store years and years ago. You can stil find them on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Odyssey-KLP1BLK-KLP1-BLK-Black-Finish-Vinyl-Record-Travel-Case-Holds-70-Vinyl-LP-/301480808572?hash=item4631a8107c:g:W7YAAOSwg3FUb2I4) and other sites.
I've used Shure M44-7 (http://smile.amazon.com/Shure-M44-7-Standard-Turntable-Cartridge/dp/B00008W2LW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1448220277&sr=8-2&keywords=shure+m44-7+stylus) Cartridges for a very long time. They are a great over all needle. They aren't too fancy, but don't sound like ****. I've used them for scratching and general play. I do prefer to play on Ortofons, but they are just too expensive for me.

I'm coming only from a hifi end, but totally agree on Ortofons. The 2m Red is actually really cheap and a fantastic cart for the price. If you are really serious about getting into hifi I would also strongly recommend their MC carts, especially the Quintet line. I've used their moving coil carts for years (Quintet Red and Bronze) and can very obviously hear a difference over MM carts.
When getting into records I usually recommend upgrading Turntable - Speakers - Amp (if needed) - Phono Pre Amp - Cartridge in that order.
Speakers provide the most audible difference in sound quality. Depending on if you use powered speakers or not upgrading an amplifier first/with speakers may be in line. I also recommend upgrading the phono pre before the cart because a moving coil cartridge will require a proper phono pre due to the fact that they are much quieter than moving magnet carts, so upgrading to a really nice cart without a proper preamp may leave you stranded, or sub par sound.
For most people just a decent turntable and nice speakers is more than enough. Don't go upgrading to a really nice cartridge without the other upgrades just because the difference in sound won't be noticeable, or fully realized without a full hifi system.
Yep, there are a lot more important items in your set up before you get to needles. Powered speakers and a good amp would be number one on my list. I have been playing on my SL-1210MK5s for nearly a decade, I have done some work on them twice to make sure the near zero is as reliable as I can get it. Nothing makes for ****ty mixing than a table that can't hold it's speed. As far as hifi stuff, you'll need to take advice from others (like LSB) who are more into the sound part. I have always been more into what makes a better mixer board, or what speakers give me the bass that I want, and even then it's been a good 3-4 years since I've been actively looking at the stuff.

Yeah I'm slightly confused. Just to clarify, you usually have powered speakers or an amp + passive speakers :)
Powered speakers, like the popular Audioengine A5/A2's (The Kanto speakers on MD are a popular clone of these) sound quite nice, and only require a phono pre between the turntable and them. The Audioengine P4's, a similar passive speaker, require the phono pre and a power amp to power the speakers, the benefit being one more variable that you can control in the chain. Having a nice power amp with powered speakers would be no bueno.

So this person is talking about a moving coil preamplifier?

I don't think so. I've never heard of anyone scratching with a MC cartridge, and if you are you are doing things terribly wrong =O haha. Maybe something just got lost in translation
Really, a moving coil preamp is the same a a standard phono preamp, just with more gain essentially. Even cheap dedicated phono preamps occasionally allow for MC usage, such as this one
If you have a moving coil cartridge though, its' something you are definitely aware of.

Sure, the 2m series is great, but for a Technics 1200 I'd go for the OM or Concorde series. Then you can have a dual purpose DJ/Hi-fi player by just swapping between styli and adjusting the force. The concordes are even specifically made for the Technics (and its clones), so you don't need to mess with mounting and adjusting the cart in a headshell. KAB even sell custom configurations with hi-fi styli on Concorde carts, just because it's easy to setup, and it looks and sounds great. (Ok the compliance of the hi-fi styli won't be 100% optimized for the tonearm mass when using the Concorde, but good enough not to cause much, if any at all, trouble.)
Going the pure hi-fi route all in with expensive speakers, amps, preamps and moving coil carts, I would not go for the Technics anyways. Not without the modifications needed to get it on par with the rest of the system at least. You'd wanna rewire the tonearm, get a tonearm dampener and stuff like that.
Getting started with vinyl one thing is more important than anyting else IMHO, and thats getting a cart with a needle and setup that won't ruin your precious vinyl. Too much or too little force will make the stylus wear the records more than necessary, and an incorrect cart setup will make the tracking bad, and bad tracking equals record wear. Worn down old needles will also tear on your vinyls, so.. get new, decent stuff, and make sure it's setup right.
Off the wall question - what do you do to keep cats off the record/turntable when its in use?

Hahaha such a good question.
My TT has an acrylic cover, but a squirt bottle also comes in handy for when I see one of the little buggers just thinking about jumping up on the table haha.
Every night is a good night to spin some vinyl.

Beautiful color...I am such a sucker for colored vinyl. If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for work that allows you to have a record player at work?

Yeh, colored vinyl is nice! I'm a computer tech. We've installed a sound system covering the entire service department in our office and we take turns playing stuff while working. I lost my dance floor when we moved the last time, but I can live with that. :)

Wow...sounds like a pretty stressful work enviroment if you ask me
Makes me want to see if I can setup something similar at my office. It's just a tiny little NOC so maybe I could get away with it...

Last time I tried using my table, however, the table wasn't spinning at the proper speeds (sometimes it was fine, most of the time it was speed up, slow down, etc.). I'm thinking I need a new belt, which I hope is the only issue. Currently living in a house now, so I'll probably order the belt soon and get this badboy setup again.

With a new table like you've got, this is very unlikely, but I've had issues with my vintage table stuttering a bit due to a dirty pot. Just in case you ever encounter that too. :P

I thought this too, however I removed the old belt and it did seem like it was stretched out a bit (in all honestly, this thing probably sat for over a year without being used (and the guide does recommend removing the belt if it's gonna sit for an extended period of time), as the floors in the old apartment were awful, and everything shook when people walked above or below us :( ), as it slid off way to easy.
I know it may be a waste of money, but I figured I'd start there and hope it fixes it instead of ripping it apart.

Yeah it was served me well for a few years now. :) I've considered upgrading, but I just don't need it right now, so I've been putting it off. One of these days the speed control pot is going to push me over the edge though and I'll splurge a bit. :))

Yep, exactly. I'd hope for a consumer version that's closer to $400, but knowing the popularity of the old models and all the hype, I'm worried it'll still be a whole lot more.

I think it's nuts to make a limited edition turntable that is worth *MAX* 600.00 and sell it for $4000. But I suppose there are 1200 really rich people out there that will buy it just to say they have it.
What about the SOTA Sapphire? *wink*

Absolutely, Others like the Thorens TD 295, Clearaudio Concept, Rega RP8, or Clearaudio Performance will all outdo the 1200. There are a lot of options in the 1k-1.5k range that are honestly good enough that spending more is a bit silly unless the rest of your system is up to par. I sure as **** know mine isnt.
Had a decent psych haul these last few weeks. 60's psych is definitely the largest genre in my collection.

Don't know exactly what vibes you're going for, but I like to chill to Washed Out. I'm blanking on the others I frequent, but I'll take a look once I'm home.
If you like some vocals in the mix, I cannot recommend The Black Keys - Turn Blue enough for these so-called activities. Wayyyyy more chill and refined than their usual lo-fi sound.
If this is way off base tho lemme know.

Only a 'tater but I got this absolute monster of a record in the mail last week. I've gone off 'death' metal, but Gojira are for sure my favourite band in the death category. THERES A DUBBER SIDE OF THE MOON?!
Seriously though dub side of the moon is my favorite stoner record I have. Its on green vinyl FFS.
Now that is a good album. My favorite song off of that album has always been Tempting Time. It really scratches the polyrhythm itch I get, and Matt Gartska is a hero of mine. :D
I was spinning some Messhugah in that post. Alive, a live album. The number one thing I need to get signed in my quest for band signatures.

I just preordered Polyphia's new album yesterday on vinyl. Too hyped for it.
i just made a preorder today too!
Ya Tempting Time is such a killer starting track too! Instantly gets me in the mood for the rest of the album. And sadly I don't think Matt was a member during the self titled album's release. I could be wrong though not too knowledgeable on the subject
I've never really listened to Messhugah, I've heard them in passing or a song here and there but never sat down for a full album. Gonna have to give that album a listen!

Ikea! They are more or less made for records, though I don't think they advertise them as such.

Ohhh I don't know the Rachmaninoff, followed by a Liszt Sonata recommendation....
I thought it could've been the casual piano in the pictures I have shared. D:
On the topic of Rachmaninoff, I've been playing the second concerto for while now and finally manage to scretch the first 8 chords
with my small hands. That dezime is INSANE. (Attachment Link)

Go figure, I didn't even notice it in the picture. :))
Yes! I played for twelve years before stopping around the time I began university. Trying to learn Chopin Ballade No.1 which I gave up on before I quit. I also just bought a book of his nocturnes. I loved playing those.
Those chords look disgusting. Why would you do that to yourself, learning Rachmaninoff with small hands? :P

So to start off I'll show you the older ones I have.

Hey guys, need advice
in what condition does a vinyl require some cleaning?
Is this a good product?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DISCWASHER-RD1006-Wet-System-Vinyl-Record-Care-System-/201376966482?hash=item2ee300a752:g:ORwAAOSwEK9T~Lip (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DISCWASHER-RD1006-Wet-System-Vinyl-Record-Care-System-/201376966482?hash=item2ee300a752:g:ORwAAOSwEK9T~Lip)
Or is there any other alternative way to clean it?
Some records need cleaning when they are brand new. I have a few records from Earache and they are noisy straight out of the shrink wrap. Earache use these horrible paper inserts and it slowly leaches out tiny particles that sit in the grooves. Its always good practice to clean your record before you play and after you've finished listening to it. I use this:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0006VMBHI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00A4X7DIA&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0F334TRGCP90XS5SWNVF (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0006VMBHI/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00A4X7DIA&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0F334TRGCP90XS5SWNVF). If you want to go further than just brushing here's two methods I've seen.
1) Vacuum machine:
These are amazing but oh man are they expensive.
http://www.soundstagedirect.com/vpi-16.5-record-cleaning-machine.shtml?gclid=Cj0KEQjwlLm3BRDjnML3h9ic_vkBEiQABa5oeeO8cPxHtpM0Nqs8vFZEoRZ0cab5sB-r8wUl11EnqhAaAiq68P8HAQ
$699.99
I did find http://www.squeakycleanvinyl.com/ these guys which have a similar solution but at a much better price point. It's basically a 3d printed bare bones version of VPI machine.
I ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet but I'll definitely put up some impressions when I get it.
The creator made a video and it looks to work pretty well
2) Wood Glue
You basically spread a thin layer of wood glue over the record and then after letting it dry you pull it off. Some people swear by this method but holy crap I'm absolutely terrified of trying it.
Oh and on the topic of static does anyone know if these static guns are worth buying?
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1034295&gclid=Cj0KEQjwlLm3BRDjnML3h9ic_vkBEiQABa5oeQy2QRF-D4poZhhvp6hki2EHxQxyZJAm4gAEb1s7gEsaAu9t8P8HAQ&is=REG&ap=y&m=Y&c3api=1876%2C92051677682%2C&A=details&Q=
Dude, that squakyclean site is awesome. Will be ordering!
And yeah, a static gun is a wonderful tool to have lying around. I have one and love it. Kinda scary how well they work honestly :thumb:

He has a bunch of different colored plastic available too! I'm really excited to get mine in, hopefully it'll live up to the hype :))
And I absolutely love the idea of the static gun. "Shoot" the vinyl until all the static is gone haha awesome. I'll have to look into picking one up for my next vinyl related purchase :thumb:

Great pick ups!
Steven Wilsons most recently releases have been very good indeed, I need to pick some of them up. The Watchmaker on The Raven is incredible. Same can't be said for the latest Gojira record, I am a massive fan of them and I've seen them live a fair few times, but L'enfant really didn't do anything for me, the songs sounded good live but on the album they just don't smack me round the face like TWoaF. I've got my Woods of Ypres collection finished, just wondering if I go for the full Emperor/ Ihsahn or Gojira back catalogue.
https://www.instagram.com/p/BDN8-qHlWvi/
I picked it up in London from Rough Trade when I went down to see my friend for the weekend. I hadn't listened to it before hand, but it came highly rated from various places, its just not my cup of tea. I have bought a few records in the past without listening to them, I suppose its a gamble.

I first saw the Samurai Champloo series when I was in high school and totally fell in love with it immediately. It's one of my favorite animes of all time and it also introduced me to the artist Nujabes. Welp almost 10 years later and I finally have the soundtrack album! And even in a sweet kahki colored vinyl
Spinning it now
Here's the intro credits for the anime and first song on the album, I'm gonna have to marathon the show again now :))
If you're into anime and have not seen Samurai Champloo get to it!!
I never realized that this was such a artistic hobby. Outside of the music being art.

Any record players I should look out for on craigslist or goodwill?
I went to goodwill and savers so many times and never found keyboards or record players worth buying. My wife got me an Audio Technica for my bday. It has worked amazing so far except for one NIN album which had 1 song skip because the grooves weren't deep enough.

LP60-USB It does not. It plays any vinyl that was pressed well, fine. I've only found the one that it had a problem with. If more skipped, then I'd want something with adjustable.

It's a 2xLP record and the other one is white vinyl. But my camera died :(
So I bought my first records tonight (3 albums by Explosions in the Sky), but now I need something to play them on. I've been reading some stuff online and if you're on a budget, the recommendation seems to be "buy second hand".
That being said: does this look any good? http://www.kapaza.be/nl/platenspelers/platenspeler-sanyo-tp1100-108438934.htm The site is in Dutch (local craigslist kinda thing), but pictures should be descriptive enough I guess? I also found this one: http://www.kapaza.be/nl/platenspelers/technics-sl-1700-platenspeler-108022878.htm
Ugh, sadly it's sold already. If the buyer doesn't show up on Saturday, he'd mail me.
Currently looking at this one: http://www.kapaza.be/nl/platenspelers/pioneer-pl-512-pick-up-108544846.htm It just had a new element (from Pioneer) and belt last week.
