Where on earth is TheProfosist

Disclaimer: I am in no way trying to start a ****storm, prof is a good guy.

What happened?: I ordered a dt225 + aramidth  ball from the prof. He recieved the money on the 26th of january 2013.
After that, communication kinda died off because the only thing left was to ship the items. On the 24th february 2013 I recieved a message saying that it would be sent on monday/tues.
This is when communication really died off, I tried mail, pm's, IRC, his thread, random threads he posted in etc. But I got no reply.
On the 13th of march 2013 i got a reply explaining that the shipping didn't leave the post office due to them screwing things up.
Thus I assumed that he was going to resend the package and waited, the package should've been here by now, atleast my other packages arrived in a timespan like that.

What am I asking for?:
prof's a good guy, I trust him, and he has a very good feedback on heatware. I am not calling him a thief, because he isn't.
However, I am wondering as to what is going on, especially when I see him post n geekhack and do business with other people and not reply to me. I know that he's busy with school and all that, and that's fine. But again, I see him doing business and posting, whilst I get no answer.
I wonder what that is going on, and I do not want to make a post like this, but putting a little pressure on him sadly sees to be the only option.
Or if it's perhaps worse; maybe he has disappeared/does not reply due to personal problems. I hope he's fine, but i'm way to impatient to wait any longer.

Anyways, I'm sorry for making a thread like this, and I am in no wy calling him a thief. I'm just wondering what's going on.
Perhaps some of you fellow geekhackers know him IRL and could ask him for me?

The point is that's been his response to any reasonable question of his whereabouts while keeping 3(?) assembly group buys held up in his absence.

I actually found this post from Ripster's Reddit.

I've spoken with a few board members and they also have had issues dealing with TheProfosist. I know the rules state that the Mod's aren't responsible for transactions on here and that's understandable, but there has to be some type of punishment/ban when a number of Geekhack members are getting scammed or having negative dealings with TheProfosist.

I just got scammed out of $90. Hopefully I've helped someone else here in the community before buying or dealing with TheProfosist.

I guess I'll be selling my Realforce that I just bought from the Classifieds since I can't afford to dish out another $100 for keycaps.

Lesson learned, no matter the number of posts by a user's name or their Heatware rating, you can still get scammed on Geekhack.org!

If you sent the payment via Paypal, you can dispute the transaction to get your money back (if that's what you want).

Correct, but it's how the community deals with the individuals that separates it from the rest.

If someone can get banned for thread-crapping, I really hope they can also get banned for scamming.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. He's responded, they're just nonsense PM's, nothing about shipping confirmation or when he'll be able to ship.

BTW he's been active and posting this entire week, he's just ignoring me, plain and simple.

If I pay you for something, I expect you to ship and notify me in a timely fashion. If you can't meet these needs, don't offer merchandise for sale. I've done thousand of Internet transactions I think I can identify when there is an issue with with a seller. The member who started this thread and another veteran member have also had issues with him.

As for Viz I do have a second trackball as you know and will send that one out next week as I havnt a clue what has happened to the first one as I shipped via international first class and it only has tracking until it leaves the US. All I ask is that if the first one some how makes it to you as well don you think you could send it back to me? Also please send me a email at "myuser"@gmail.com with your mailing address once again so I can make sure that the one I have is 100% right. Im sorry that this has become what is has I always seem to have an issue with first class international so I may just stop using it form here on out.

It was 4 months, not 1 week, and a lot more money. And I still didn't go trash the guy in a thread. He eventually came through in my case. That said, I don't make habits of dealing with people that disappear for periods of time... but make sure you're not jumping the gun a bit.  TheProf may be a lot of things, but he's not been a scammer as of yet.

If I send someone money, and they're active on the board posting daily and ignoring my pm's when I'm simply just asking for a shipping date or when I might expect what I paid for? Sorry for asking a seller to act like a professional and provide communication to the people he or she has taken money from. And 5 days isn't ridiculous when he's posting daily and ignoring me.

Sounds like a lot more of you are having issues with him also, not my problem, I hope you get what you paid for.

To be clear, I think your criticism is valid and fair, I'm just saying that less than a week is not a lot of time to jump on him publicly. That's said, ignoring PMs and such is certainly uncalled for for any member here. Unfortunatly it happens. :-(

You publicly slandered him after only waiting a few days? I agree that is communication sucks and he needs to be more responsible with a lot of things on this board, but to already conclude that he scammed you after being impatient for a few days is a bit much.

Just so you all know I have refunded his money as of last night because he already had a claim up and had turned it into a dispute by then. Due to that and how all of the rest of the transaction went I thought it was in my best interest to just cancel the transaction.

I have found a new buyer for the caps and my HHKB carrying bag. Those will be shipping out the next business day after i receive payment. I personally after this transaction would not recommended doing business with him. If you would like to know more send me a pm or email about it.


Also at one point he did mention getting his money back and buying from Elite Keyboards which I think hell probably be sorely disappointed in as well as I have paid for expeditied shipping through them in the past and on multiple occasions the item I bought hadnt been shipped yet for nearly a whole business week.

Both sides has their argument, if you look at digi's point of view he just made payment to a member on this board then a few days later sees a thread in regards to this member not sending out items after 3 months, then also sees WFD saying that Prof owes him hundreds of dollars as well as lacking communication. I think it's perfectly normal for digi to act the way he did as no one likes to be scam, if Prof was answering his PM's maybe it would have been a tad different but the ignoring of the PM's would lead one to think its the same thing is happening to him just like it is to Viz and WFD

With that said, it's very easy for a person on the outside or someone that has waited many months to say it was over reaction but I think it was totally justify. On the plus side Prof is aware of the thread and is taking care of it, so lets all just move on and stop criticizing each other.

The point being that "it showing someone on the forum" really shouldn't be a determinate of anything.

On another note: Prof said he was going to give me an explanation on this which I still haven't gotten. So unless he has sent it now, i'll call for getting my money back. His other barters probably went well, but this one has been horrible.
