Yes they are pcb mounted and plate mounted.

Mouser probably carries the pcb mounted switch only, which is a bit cheaper.

the switches listed are probably pcb mount switches, as the poker PCB has the pcb-mount fixation holes. however, the plate can be used with the pcb mount switches.

last someone checked, mouser had pretty limited stock, in that they have fewer switch varieties and they have very few on hand.

green are blues with stiffer springs. light grey are clears with stiffer springs iirc. check the MX switch wiki

I apologize if this has already been answered elsewhere in the thread and I overlooked it, but did we ever get a solid answer on whether the plate kits were up for sale by themselves?

The first post seems to indicate the plate is available for $11.

Don't remember if anyone mentioned if the plate can be added to existing Pokers though.

Oh yeah, well, I expect it's just a matter of desoldering the switches, mounting them, and resoldering the whole board, which is no big deal. As long as I can buy one without the rest of the kit!

That's my question though, do you need to desolder all the switches or can you just pop the plate on?

actually, you don't need to desolder the switches to plate an existing unplated poker. you will need to desolder the LEDs, but that's it.

I was gonna experiment with taking off the switch tops and mounting the plate that way, rather than desoldering. Good to hear that'll work.

So can these two things be confirmed?  I really want to make sure before I buy a plate (just like everybody else)

1.  Can I buy a plate buy itself?
2.  Can the plate be mounted to an pre-built Poker without desoldering the switches/LEDs?

Thanks,

-Tad

The answer to #2 is directly above your post.  The answer to #1 ultimately comes from iMav, but as it's a separately listed item with it's own price I'm inclined to expect that you can order it alone.  iMav's order to them is hardly going to contain info on who ordered what, just a list of parts and quantity, then he gets to sort it out on his end and send it to you.

You can use the stock poker stabilizers with the plate mount right? Even if you took the top off, how would you push the plate mount past the four lips on the corners of each switch?

From what I've seen, all you need to do is desolder the 7 LEDs.  Then remove the tops of all the switches, place the plate, reattach the tops of the switches, and solder the LEDs back on.  I'm assuming the stabilizers will work because this is a plate made for the Poker.  Hopefully my assumption is correct.

So I assume that if you have a plate you also have a pcb?  ie, you don't do wire-wrap or point to point circuitry?

I'd rather not count so can anybody tell me how many switches I should order for the entire board? :)
EDIT: Found the answer in some other post: 61 switches

EDIT:
Earlier in the thread somebody complained about this being as expensive as a fully assembled Poker but those don't come with aluminium casings, do they?
>> Was answered in this way somewhere else as well.

This is a lot more expensive than a normal fully assembled poker, but as far as I know it's the only place you can get official aluminium cases for them.

So it's worth it if you like DIY and want an aluminium case for your poker.

Is the "official" aluminum case for the Pure not the same as this?

I'm not too worried, I'll just need to get a solder wick or something. Very true 104 wouldn't be as entertaining, it'll get me ready for the ErgoDox keyboard though.

I'm going to be throwing in a last minute order for at least a plate and set of stabilizers, but I'm so tempted to buy a kit!!!  Just not sure I can justify it with 2 pokers already and intent to buy a pure... I guess this is what they call first-world problems, lol.

These bits in red get in the way if you just take the top of the switch off (the plate needs to go under them in other words). Unless there's some way I'm missing to push the plate under these they'll need to be desoldered.

You're right, they will all have to be desoldered.  I just finished modding a filco to ergo clears, and can confirm that the plate must be in between the pcb and switches, and there is no way to squeeze the plate over the switches after they are soldered to the pcb.

The red highlights in Loligagger's picture rest on top of the plate.  They are on the bottom section of the switch, so taking the top of the switch off will not get them out of the way and hence you can't slip the plate past them.

This make me lean towards wanting to buy a kit now... desoldering sucks with cheap equipment.
