Invoices sent.

You can still send in orders, of course. :)

These are really heavy after packing, about 3.29 KG.

It looks like a typical TKL with the 1.5x1x1.5x7x setup, so I'd assume they work with current plates and cases designed for those layouts

So all I need to get now is switches, stabilizers, and potentially LEDs for key backlighting (do I need resistors too?).  Naive question, but what LEDs are compatible?

i'm unsure about resistors. but i strongly believe they should be there already.
as for LED...3mm led (round head) or 2x3x4 led (square).

Resistors are pre-soldered already.  I'm pretty sure the resistors are the same as the ones from lightsaver, butterfly, etc.

Ordered Silver top with black base.  Think that will look nice?
Pretty sure I want silver, not sure of the base though.

Edit: I'm thinking it will be too much of a contrast.  I'm going to switch to silver with gray base.

Sure, I'll update it.  You did the order form right btw.  The PCB and plate are extra orders.

Hi elton,
sorry if this question was answered but I couldn't find it :X
may I know is this orion's plate universal which means applicable to other pcb as well (eg A87)?
it does support 86 and 87 layout right?

thanks!

You can have it winkey (87 keys) or winkeyless (86 keys). I don't know if it fits other PCBs....

I'll try to ask for some pictures of a full gray case

I believe the grey we're looking for is this one below, if I'm not mistaken. And that viper picture's grey might just be due to the lighting in the room.

If it's not, I wouldn't fret too much, just tell elton that you want a different colour

now I am thinking whether I should buy the pcb + plate alone and get a acrylic casing... afraid that the plate need special mounting

Seems like Korea Post raised their rates since Butterfly group buy.  I was using their old chart, oh well. I'll be using the new chart from now on for new invoices.  It's only a couple dollars difference anyways.

Currently there are 5 US orders. I can ship them together.

2 Orions are about 5.5-6kg, so 5 Orions would be around 15kg which is about $152 USD (161,700 WON)

Add about 3kg for each additional Orion set.

Based on those numbers it doesn't seem like proxying would save each individual much more than $10-$15. ($152 / 5 -> 30.40 + $18 flat rate worst case = $48.40 instead of ~$61)

Yeah, sadly $400+ is way too rich for me.  It would be better to get one of the buyers to proxy.  I'd be more than willing to proxy if no buyer wants to step up, but I can't swing the price for the keyboard.

I can proxy if you'd be kind enough to lend packing and procedure advice nubbinator.

EDIT: Only if the rest of the US orderers think it will be worth it.

I can proxy if you'd be kind enough to lend packing and procedure advice nubbinator.

EDIT: Only if the rest of the US orderers think it will be worth it.

Packing advice:

1.  Did you use enough padding/bubblewrap/packaging material?  If you said no, add more.  If you said yes, add more.

2.  This fits perfectly in this box!  No it doesn't.  Unless the person isn't willing to spend a little more on a bigger box for more packaging, the box is too small if it just fits.  If the PCB touches both ends of the box or is with 1/8", the box is too small.

3. Surely this PCB will be fine just in bubble wrap, right?  No.  With smaller PCBs, it can be, but with a 60% or bigger, always wrap it in bubble wrap, sandwich it between some cardboard, and wrap some more.

4.  Voids in packaging are fine, right?  I mean, I have all this bubblewrap and other packaging to protect it.  No, you don't.  It can be peanuts, wadded up newspaper, whatever, the stuff shouldn't be able to bang around in the package.  Shifting is okay, not full on moving.

Procedure advice:

1. Ship, at minimum, USPS Priority.  No First Class, no Parcel Post.

2.  Collect money via Paypal and buy shipping through Paypal.

3.  Offer shipping insurance at the going rate if they want it.  Explicitly state in the invoice that you are not responsible for any damaged or property lost in transit if they do not pay extra for the shipping insurance except in cases of negligence.

4.  Document everything.  Show how you packed it and shipped it.

It sounds scary, but it really isn't if you take the time to do it right.

Not sure I'm comfortable with a proxy :/

You should be able to have it shipped direct to you.  There were a few last time with the Butterfly pad.  It's a little more expensive, but it can be done.

Hi elton5354,

I'm interested in this keyboard, one of the best looking keyboard I've ever seen! However, I'm living in Japan and don't know how to build the keyboard, I don't know anyone that can help me too. Do you know anyone in Korea that can do this (fully build the keyboard) and ship to Japan?

Thanks!

Yeah, you can message either of them to confirm everything then let me know. I can have it shipped within South Korea. I have done this before with butterfly key pad. Shipping was like $6 to them + shipping to you.

Duck's relatives living in Japan.

and He(Duck) told me. "I will assemble and ship!".

If you pay the price for the assembly and shipping Cost.

Don't worry.
