Great news for me! Thanks, lotus1109, elton5354, DraJin!

@DraJin, could you please pm me Duck's email? He speaks English? It would be great if Duck can do the assemble.

Thanks again, guys!

A couple more questions before I pull the trigger on this:
- This board only takes 1.5 unit mods doesn't it?
- The red anodization is not possible and is something I would have to do locally.
- The acrylic parts are not for sale but can you share the file so we can have them made ourselves?
- How do the leds work? I'm guessing single colour.

1. No you can choose
2. Doesn't look like they're offering the red color so yeah you can get a shop to do it
3. Someone else might be able to. They may be public on the Korean sites I'll dig around later
4. No idea what you mean, you can put whatever LEDs you want, both for in switch and for the SMD ones. If you're asking if they're RGB LEDs then no, nothing supports that yet anyway.

That's great. Sorry, I should have been clearer on the fourth one. I was wondering if they were RGB because the pictures showed a mix mash of different colours.

Hey guys,
Really looking into getting into a custom keyboard. I dont have any experience with soldering but I intend to start and I already have a solder, dont think it seems too hard.
My question is this: What is required for this other than our MX key switches, soldering iron and soldering accessories and keycaps?
Is everything soldered basically or is there anything beyond soldering LEDs and Switches? SMD soldering and such seem pretty difficult to do unless you have quite a bit of experience.
sorry if this sounds retarded but I am pretty interested in building something like this. Also, would this be a good keyboard to start on or are there better options? I really want a TKL, metal case, and then thats pretty much it. LED support seems really nice as well.
I just want to know before i spend quite a bit on this
Thanks!

You need LEDs, stabilizers, switches (lube/springs/stickers if you're into that, optional stuff), keycaps, a mini usb cable, the kit itself, and that's about it really.

I think it's SMD-pre soldered, however the LEDs on the bottom of the PCB are SMD.

This would not be a good keyboard to start on lol, maybe start modding a sub $100 stock keyboard before you tinker around with a $400+ one.

Not sure whether you need diodes and resistors also. At least that is the case for my face-W PCB.

Most of the time you need diodes/resistors but apparently on the Orion they're already done I believe?

Guessing it's the same as with the LightSaver, which had all SMD parts pre-soldered.  So just LEDs and switches.

If you mean the same angle, then yeah of course.  11 degrees tilt and it's from the same manufacturer; not too sure on anodized colours matching though.

thank you sir.
aside from that, would be the same for the length/height from top to bottom row?
i can't seem to find pictures of the keypad and orion side by side.

I think the lightpad is a bit thinner on the bezel/frame, and I think the lightsaver is even thinner than that. Orion has a pretty wide and thick case.

thanks for the effort.
what i meant was something like this... but instead of the saber/saver, it'd be an orion

i am assuming that the orion will be 'taller' than the light saber/saver and the butterfly, considering that the orion has extra space between the function row and number row. but i was hoping for an actual picture as my visualization/assumption could be inaccurate.

The light pad should match in height but not the width as you said because of the spacing of the f row. Lightsaver would be perfect as show in the picture.

Black is boring :)  Go for silver or gray.  I like the bluish gray of the Viper, but no idea what this gray is like.  I've had plans to reanodize my LightSaver from the start, but I actually really like the clear-anodized silver--it goes with everything, and changes tones based on lighting.

It'll cost about $75 to ship 2 sets to Canada, but if you're shipping it to Sifo to assemble for you, you won't save anything in the end after it ships back to you..;)

I'll refund you the difference if you're going that route..I'll also PM US orders later if they want a proxy since there are 7 orders now from US and if you guys want to save $10-15 dollars in shipping.

I've asked Duck if this PCB has the same form factor as A.87 but have not heard back yet.  Could you perhaps investigate that, Elton, if you don't mind?  I'm thinking of replacing my LZ-GH PCB with something like this Saver v1.0 PCB, because I like all the cool light modes after playing with my LightSaver for a while.  I've learned that Sprit's should also most likely fit, but would be nice to use the same firmware/mapping tools for both of my customs.

Thanks!  I forgot to add that the LZ-GH PCB (called TRiK) was based on A.87, so anything that's also based on A.87 should technically have proper switch spacing and such (and hopefully mounting holes).

Ordered one. This is going to be an expensive month for keyboards. :D

EDIT: I guess I will need to start sourcing some switches and stabilizers.
EDIT2: These should fit, right?

Those are definitely pcb mount cherry stabs, so they're good
Not too sure on imsto's shipping speed, though :P.
I'm getting mine from GON's site. There are also switch stickers on that site, although only in red.

You can get switches from mechanicalkeyboards.com. ^^

Current Keyboards: Orion - 62g ergo clears;
A87 PS2AVR - 59g ergo clears; QFR - stock blues
