can anyone explain the difference in feel between the 3 plates? Does the acrylic plate have less of a 'ping'?

If you're familiar with pcb mount or gons polycarbonate plate I would say it reminds me of those. Probably closer to the former actually. I opted for plastic over aluminum and steel for my board.

Kind of, but it gets so shiney.. Me likes shiney.

But seriously, I'd love to get my hands on a black aluminum bottom instead.

I went for the acrylic bottom to have a different degree/angle.  I like the aluminum's angle fine (assuming it's the same as the LSv2), but I wanted to try something different.  I'm definitely a fan of the angle.  I was going to spray black vinyl dye on the base to darken it up, but changed my mind (I figured the base has all those LEDs, so why mask them).  I like how the board looks like it's glowing from the inside, showing through both the top and the bottom.  It's solid, stable, won't slide around on the desk, and doesn't kill one's back if you pack it along with a laptop.  If the upcoming 75% duck board has the same angled acrylic bottom with the same angle, I'd do my damnedest to jump on board that buy.

TL;DR:
I like how my set up looks with red backlighting.   :D

Not at all! It just looks like an aluminum bottom died and left behind its ghost.

Seriously though, I love that it has the same look as the aluminum angled bottom and the fact it literally gets painted with whatever colors the LEDs are is an amazing aspect. I definitely will have to get one of each option for the next Octagon.

Opposite for me, I think the full alu bottom looks strangely elongated and too tall. The acrylic bottom is the perfect angle and shape, it's exactly what I imagine a keyboard should be like.

are you referring to the frontal view when you say it's too tall? if so i definitely agree. but the primary view of a keyboard is from either sides, and to me the full alu bottom look more 'complete' and don't have the tall body/short leg effect that the acry bottom does

LED/lighting capabilities is ofc, a separate discussion entirely

D: I don't think and Duck board looks too tall. That angle is to die for! <3 They look amazing with an angled wrist rest, imo. If you mean primary view for other people, then I suppose I get that, but unless you're reaching your arms over from an offset position in front of the keyboard, your primary view is in front, haha.

What esc key?

I have absolutely no idea. It's a sort of cyan green-ish thick ABS keycap I found on the attic in a little baggie along with some doubleshot f-keys. To this day I couldn't figure out from what keyboard it came from originally. If anyone has any lead that would be cool!

I'm sure they were screwed into the acrylic piece, I doubt they used any sort of adhesive.

I concur! They look like some I've seen on taobao a while back. All of these, including GON's tend to screw in from the bottom of the case.

Yeah it has already been said, you just screw them on. And I am sure that GON feet would work since they have the same mounting system (flat top side where you just put a screw in to hold it).

Fun fact, I was going to buy black feet from GON but decided against it because it didn't feel like it was worth the shipping from korea.

EDIT: has anyone figured out what the indicator LEDs do? I know the ones above the arrow keys indicate if you are on the normal layer or on an Fn layer, but what do the ones next to Esc do?

Jesus, is this the plan? truecustom and co are very ambitious already planning for the Orion v3 before all of these are even out.

Looks like people who want an Eagle/Viper v2 are getting shafted then? :P

I have an odd feeling that the new 75% isn't going to be called "Octagon" this time around. He seems to have removed the little nameplate piece that creates the "octagon" form factor, but then he does list it as the next GB.
