Yes, they are. I'm finding all of this out slowly as I prepare to join the club... All of these awesome boards I'm seeing pictures of are making me anxious...

For me personally, that's kind of where I draw the threshold line on what I enjoy about this hobby.  My limitations go as far as modding switches, but mostly I enjoy it for the finished product.  While I've always wanted to try it myself, I just can't get passed that motivational barrier to do it.  It's not because I'm worried about messing it up, I just don't think I enjoy it at all.  And based on that, I would prefer to have someone who is much more experienced with professional equipment do it for me.
