I used to type on anything the company would provide. Usually the crappy dell, gateway 2000, compaq...etc keyboards came with my computer. Then I used a old razer black widow with first gen orange. I liked that board but it was full of problems. I spilled a lot on it also. Now i use a razer black widow elite with the new green switches but i take care of this one. Personal\Home, I have a MBP, I like MX Reds and Razer oranges, But i definitely type faster on the greens. I don't have good dexterity. My son is a big gamer with a ton of keyboards to try. He is a college student at UNR off for the summer playing games till 4:30 am each day. I dont buy custom keyboards because my wife is a control freak with our money and would never let me waste our money on a keyboard. I'm getting a Razer blackwidow Lite for father's day (Orange) (my son has one which i tried) for my Mac. Thanks for asking.
Edit: I'm currently a Dev for SG on furlough for 6 more weeks thanks to the apocalypse.
Cool. I believe that some of those Gateway 2000 boards actually had mechanical switches. I don't know that that was common though. The only one I have ever seen did not.
I haven't tried any of the Razer switches, to my knowledge. I probably should. I know they've been made by Greetech and Kailh though, of which I have tried a few MX clones from, so I imagine that they're close.
If you've tried MX reds, how would you compare them against Razer orange?
You can get some kit boards for pretty cheap, the Chinese ones. It is more fun to tear apart OEM boards and modify them anyway though, if you ask me.
When you said SG you almost made me think Silicon Graphics, but it appears that they no longer exist? Otherwise you could have picked up one of their old keyboards. That would be cool.
If you like Razer Greens, and I understand why, by the way, I have a Blackwidow too, have you tried a Model M recently? What do you think about those? Those are the old IBM monsters that clack clack clack. It's the one in my signature.
Mal's got some Models M and F and some other weird **** in his signature too. Looks like an Omnikey ultra or something and a Leading Edge. If you like clicky keyboards, buy his signature.
I have plenty of other weird/random old stuff that I can't find pixel art for, and/or haven't edited together with other boards in order to overcome the signature file count limitation. I know I need to edit an F107 template to look more like mine and jam it in there somewhere. If he likes linears, he may like an old Zenith Z-150 or ZKB-2 with some Alps SKCLs.
What ye olde boards have you got besides Ms?
