GROUP BUY IS LIVE https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=112402.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATES:

A lot of information has come out in the past couple of days and I want to thank everyone who showed support and really wanted to see DSS Hand Work return in its original form. I cannot begin to express how thankful I am to have a community that not only stands up for what is right, but also wants to see as much inclusion as possible. The return of the original coloring of Hand Work would not have been possible without any of you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you all!

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,everyone! I'm Hammer.
I want to welcome you to the introduction of DSS Hand Work.
I like to consider it a faithful reimagining of the original Cherry Handarbeit board, however this time around it uses Signature Plastics stock colors.
DSS is a unique profile, similar to that of DSA but more sculpted
As much as I love the original styling, the board was never released to the general public and only used as a trade show sample. My goal with using Signature Plastics' DSS profile is to not only make the set as affordable and accessible as possible, but also get it into the hands of fan much sooner than GMK queue times.
Signature Plastics queue time is about 10-12 weeks.

What you may notice from the very start is the interesting kitting!
The main idea for this set is to offer a wide range of compatibility that was not present with the original, especially in the 40s department.
As an avid user of all things 40% I decided to make my main focus to support those awesome boards, however, I did not want to leave anyone out meaning the kit also supports all the way up to 104 style layouts!
Any keys that is shared between 40% keyboards and larger ones are kept common and not repeated so there is not an abundance of wasted plastic that is left unused!

As for right now, the set is scheduled to release April 2nd (April fools days wasn't available... I know)
I have a bunch of surprises in store and I hope everyone enjoys the set.

Always love seeing some more DSS sets in the community, although I personally would definitely prefer a different style of mods (maybe text) :thumb:

No new molds all molds exist. These are all stock colors from signature plastic. And the legend mods are already in production from SP as other sets are using it! But completely understand your point!

The first set submitted and already in production is DSA paper work by Trash man keyboards (formally van keyboards). DSS solarized dark (set to run sometime soon) is also running with these mods. There is also DSS shale which is in group buy right now also uses the mods. They have come to be known as trashcons after the Creator

They definitely aren’t for everyone but I’m a huge fan of them!

DSA Paper work*, Shale has been canceled & Solarized dark was only posted this week? I wasn't aware DSA/DSS moulds we're interchangable.

Shale was originally canceled, but had since been brought back with a reduced kit at a much cheaper cost. Super excited for that set. A lot of that information as well as information about sol dark and hand work can all be found in the 40s discord. At lot of discussion goes on there!

I actually like the modifiers, and I’m here for iteration on a meme.

Did you run this by the creator and runner of Handarbeit? I know a R2 for that set was in the works.

Yes, DSS and DSA doubleshot use the same legends. DSA is like DSS’s kid brother.

i don't know the history of handarbeit but if this is cool with whoever created handarbeit then i am all for it. Did my research, Cherry used Handarbeit as a demonstration piece back in the day. i like it, it is fun!

I would love to see a Handarbeit-inspired DSS set without trying to literally replicate the exact colours of each key. Big primary blocks, but done in a way that feels original. As has been mentioned, Handarbeit worked because it was a Cherry reference and this being a different profile is too many degrees away to make total sense. Regardless, best of luck!

The kit render is missing it, but there’s a note that Terminal ISO support will be provided in the addon kit.

I thought about it, but SP DSS regular mods do not look that good. The current mods that are used pay homage to the person that gave me the idea for the set as well as to my favorite keyboard the minivan

To be fair, SP's text-only mods for DSS look quite good, on the whole.  But their standard DSA / DSS icons aren't great.  And with this being a very 40s-focused set, having a nice, cohesive-looking set of icon-based mods definitely makes more sense.

Hi, just wanted to ask, should the numpad enter key be a pale green colour like in gmk handarbeit, instead of the dark blue as currently shown in the renders? I think SP has some stock pale green colour options. Thanks in advance!

second b is a meme and can go in extension kits for people who really want it

im probably in for this

id rather have text mods instead of these icons but it's handarbeit so it matters less

Hot take and just an opinion, I don't truly understand the importance of second B in base kit - I get that putting an extra B in the base kit allows users to have two B's on alice layout boards while using shifts as spacebars, but if people are willing to use keys with shift legends on their spacebars I would have assumed they'd be fine using one of the many R4 keys (up arrow, CODE, SUPER, 00, etc) as a second B! Also, I find that I personally hit B with a certain hand each time so the legend isn't of utmost importance.

Anyway, glad to support DSS Hand Work and hope to see a price I can back without any buyer's remorse. Very interested in trying the DSS profile. The icon mods are cool and innovative but definitely adds more to the 'toyish' vibe of Handarbeit. I feel these icon mods would look really good on something 'serious' like WoB to balance that out. GLWIC

(btw, why is there a 1.75u Z)

Well, it looks like there is a mega base kit now which contains spacebars that can be used in an alice type layout. If the base kit is going to be that large I don't see why adding a 2nd B would be a big deal. If the runner decides to break down the base kit I wouldn't mind it being added to a spacebar or extension kit but as of right now there isn't one available.
