HHKB keysets
« on: Thu, 28 November 2013, 17:31:13 »
Hi everyone,

Where can I order some HHKB keysets? I'm specifically looking for the White printed stock set.

I know EliteKeyboards sell them, but shipping fees to Europe are just insanely high:

56 USD shipping fees for a 78 USD keyset!

I often order items in the US, and no other website has such high shipping fees. Originative international shipping fees are 15-20 USD. I just ordered a high end headphone yesterday, shipped via Fedex International, and the shipping fees were 17 USD!

For comparison, I bought my HHKB for 52 USD yesterday on Amazon Japan (shipping fees are 36 USD... for a complete keyboard from Japan). So the keyset would cost me double than the entire keyboard! What the hell?!

So, is there anywhere ELSE I could find them?

I really like EK but it's really annoying for us Europeans that they have such high shipping fees while they also have exclusive items that can't be find anywhere else in occidental shops.

Thanks!

How did you find a hhkb for $52?

And maybe you can message sales at EK to see if they can use a cheaper shipping method.

Nope, I bought a (an?) HHKB Pro 2 in Black on Black. Amazon JP must have goofed (or it was a fantastic sale, I don't know), and priced it at ~5000 Yens for a very short moment yesterday. It shipped today.

You can check Amazon prices history via CamelCamel, for the skeptics.

It was for a very short time - a few minutes after I finished my order, it was back at ~24,000 Yens. Couldn't warn anybody before it was too late, sorry!

I just sent an email to EK, hoping they will be able to offer me lower shipping fees. I'll post their answer here, if any other european fellow is interested.

Amazing deal, can't believe it shipped.

Amazon often ships items even if they made a mistake in their pricing (at least in France, where I live), unlike many other shops who just cancels your order. That's why it can be pretty useful to have a CamelCamel price watch on pricy items you really want (it works with Amazon US, too). I would have never imagined I'd have such a great deal, though.

If I had known I'd have taken two (both the Black on Black and the Blank Black were at 5000 Yen). Not more than that, because it's just more reasons for them to cancel your order if you take advantage of their mistake and order 12 keyboards at this price.

You should have ordered 20, and resold them here.

Yes, I use WhiteRabbit. They're fast and cheap, really good service.

Amazon JP does ship books, CDs, DVDs, etc internationally, though. Just not hardware.

That's what I thought but from OP thread it sounds like they shipped direct to him. Thanks for clarification/confirming.

So lucky I've had my eye on amazon japan all week. That must have come up for moments, you got the pro for the price of the lite!
