Need help for my Logitech TrackBall Mouse
« on: Fri, 15 November 2019, 00:38:51 »
I've been using the same model for years

I dont have any major concerns with the mouse, as far as functionality goes, but I do have a problem with the plastic used on the mouse and the buttons

After a few months the buttons start to feel like ****, and the back plate of the mouse absorbs sweat. It loses its comfortable feelings, becoming slippery and useless.

Im not sure if its possible to pop these open and modify them to use different switches, and a different material for the top plate...

I spend like 1-200 a year buying these mice since their life span is a couple months of heavy use before I feel like I need to get a new one.

Need help thanks

Almost all Logitech use Omron switches.

Yes you're right

I opened up my mouse and inside I saw the switch

It felt soft/used up

Idk how else to explain it but it was no longer "clicky" or tactile

I tried to re-solder the side mouse button omron switch back into the spot of the main one but it didnt work out and the position wasnt perfect... so I had to toss that one

Heavy use isn't the issue, they were not designed for what we subject them to.

While they may be rated for 50million clicks, they are rated for ZERO resting pressure and only 1(?) pound of max pressure, anything more and the switch starts to degrade. This means simply resting your finger on the button is causing wear and if you get annoyed and press a little hard or "smack" the mouse button in frustration you did damage to the switch shortening the lifespan. So why did they become the standard if they aren't up to the task? I have no idea.

Look up the Omron guide I posted here on GH if you want more info, it's the most complete source of info on the internet regarding these switches and has links to the manufacturer documentation.

50 million is also only because logitech has the H spacers to prevent overtravel.

Without those spacers you'd get maybe 5 million.

The switches are rated that by Omron, not Logitech.
