Criminally underrated Youtubers
« on: Sat, 09 April 2016, 16:39:32 »
While they don't have to be specific to keyboards it's not uncommon you look at a channel and say to yourself....my god why doesn't this woman/man have way more subscribers and views?

Personally i would have to say i think https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCD0y51PJfvkZNe3y3FR5riw  Chyrosran22 deserves far more views and subscribers.  Each video grips me until the end and each one filled with interesting facts about the keyboard and switches at hand.  Never have i watched a video by Chyrosran22 and ever once been remotely bored or felt he was rambling on.

The Video Game Years over on Retroware:
https://www.youtube.com/user/RetrowareTV/playlists

Shot like a VH1 special, this series covers every important(and some not so much) land mark in video game development and hardware from 1977-1989. Extremely informative, with surprise guests (like when they talk about E.T. for the 2600 they had an interview with it's lead designer) I retained more information in the weekend spent watching this series than I did during the year-long course on modern gaming history. If you have even the slightest interest in retro games, hardware, design mechanics, or just like to learn and nostalg - you are only doing yourself a disservice by not checking the series out.

Larry Bundy Jr's channel. This guy is like the Cronkite of retro gaming journalism. He does what no other YouTuber does these days - ACTUAL RESEARCH. He tracks down and asks the folks involved in some obscure game from 30 years ago to uncover the truth about it's dev cycle and really goes the extra mile to make videos with facts no one else is digging up.
Not convinced? Check out his video on the first appearance of Sonic in a video game:

Seriously man, a compliment like that means so much to me :D . Thanks so much!!

Personally, I've been watching some channels of Youtubers doing metal covers of video game soundtracks. Some of them have amazing talents, but criminally few subscribers, such as gabocarina96, elguitarTom, and Nemistade. Here's a few examples:

Check my keyboard video reviews:

You are quite welcome, i honestly was unaware you were even on GeekHack :p  I only just got around to watching your HHKB review and even though i love mine i still found the video and comparisons you made very interesting seeing someone elses perspective on the board.  I must now however revert to the religious zealotry of Topre and sacrifice a Cow in honor to the Topre gods :p

Not knocking the guy. 2,500,000+ and ~1,000,000 subscribers is not underrated.

His voice leaves a lot to be desired that's for sure. I really like the quality of video he puts out and the fact that he is putting out atleast 1 new video a day is pretty insane.

I'm sure we all know LGR, he's right in our wheelhouse. But he consistently pumps out great material and has been for years. Good man.

Tier Zoo is great, he's been getting more traction lately. Consistent and good quality.

Only In Japan, Jon puts a ton of work into all his videos and has a way of getting access to places and disarming strangers with his smile.

Off the top of my head one might be this power tool repair channel. Guy runs an independent power tool repair shop and films his repairs while giving advice, essentially. Not a broad appeal but I've found it worthwhile knowing what can go wrong with such tools as there are so few which cover this on Youtube (what feels like 95% of power tool videos on YT are shills/promotions). To make some comparison he's a bit like the Louis Rossman of power tool repair, though his accent may be harder to follow.

From the videos I've watched at the time he seemed to consider Makita generally better quality than a lot of the brands he's repaired, which partially informed my drill/driver buying decision last year, in addition to AvE's tear-down (seriously, like virtually no one else on YT beside these guys do power tool tear-downs). Also says "okay, so" a lot :p

My pick would be Michael Reeves.

I don't know if I'd consider 437k criminally underratred but I think he should be in the millions. His humor style might not be for everyone but he does a lot of neat stuff with coding, not exactly practical but always hilarious.

My channel. I have over 400 videos, and I believe the content is good and varied. I dunno, though I'm stuck at 47 subscribers. Let me know if you think my channel is "criminally underrated" or not.

Splash Wave/ Strafe Fox is criminally undersubbed. Just watch 3 minutes of his latest video on the making of Donkey Kong Country and tell me he doesn't have some of the best production quality of these types of videos. He deserves a million subs at least.

BadSeedTech - awesome reviewer and all-round good/funny guy

Optimum Tech has been my go to for SFF based builds and another awesome guy to talk with.

My Name is Byf - awesome lore channel for Destiny and Warframe (and a few other titles)

Also have to add Geographics to this list - love learning new things about history through this channel, they're other channels are awesome as well

For music/covers:

Frog Leap Studios - makes some pretty enjoyable covers into metal tracks.

Master Boot Record makes some good stuff as well (not covers).

bkrownd:"Those damned rubber chiclet keys are the devil's nipples."   >:D
