Hello and welcome to the GB for SA SAIL!

In case you don't already know, this set is based on the SAIL (Stanford AI Lab) keyboard created by Les Earnest, inventor of the Finger protocol. SAIL itself was started by John McCarthy, inventor of the LISP programming language. The SAIL keyboard inspired the Knight keyboard, which in turn inspired the LISP Machine CADR and Space Cadet keyboards. The keyboard features beautiful teal keycaps and a mix of APL and Greek top legends, as opposed to the Space Cadet keyboard where the Greek legends are on the front of the keys. The SAIL keyboard also introduced the META and TOP keys.

They will look like how they are drawn, yes, as the number row is comprised of custom legends, unlike SA Symbiosis if that's what you're getting at. They are not 7bit style, just simply what was present on the SAIL keyboard.

I know the GB already started and I will likely pick it up, but...

It is super a shame that there is no spacebar kit since Signature Plastics is the only place that has molds for 3, 4, 4.5 and all the other odd sizes in SA profile...

Yeah I know it is a supply and demand thing. 6U and 6.5U are for Leopold and Apple classic layout, 3U is common for 40% boards. I think 4.5 is for NIZ Plum.

Yeah based on supply and demand I totally get why they weren’t included. It’s just a rare opportunity to get them in a GB.

Yes but it's already outdated as of last night. Overall it was a pretty decent first week considering all the competition from GMK this month. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but I'm not really worried about the main kits like alphas, mods, and even maths. I'm also fairly confident that numpad, ISO, and even ortho have a good chance of making it. Ergo and 40s, those are going to need some help, but that's the case in almost any GB. There's still a good chunk of time left in the GB and last day surges can surprise you.

Admittedly I was a bit worried, but I've done some research on other sets. I see what you mean. There seems to be a steady but small rise through the group buys. Then a huge rise at the end of nearly all the GBs.

I realize I'm way too late here.  Is there no longer any way to buy one of these keyboards?  Or keysets?  I'm doing a lot of PDP-10 emulation, and a SAIL keyboard work-alike would be good for running the SAIL operating system, WAITS.  Also ITS, since MIT had one of those keyboards for running SUDS.

Hi all,

Here with an exciting update! Production is fully underway now and I have some sample images from SP to share with you. I've been informed that they are targeting the end of the month to finish production, so hopefully that remains true. Do note that the white balance is terrible on the first image, but I'm confident in the color matching from other sample photos they've shown me.

What is the long streak down the E/@ key in the sample? Is that a deep scratch or a stress fracture?

Edit: it looks like the plastic is separated along a line going over the (white) text plastic.

I saw photo in the Instagram, and Instagram photo seems to be more blueish, SA 8010-esque. Does that photo have just incorrct white balance or it has been done with different lightning?

I am fairly confused with colors but pleased enough with final result! Good job!

The Instagram photo was taken in the evening under warm, artificial light. The 2nd image is using natural light.

Wow, looks great! Do you know how SP is packaging these days? Trays? Is there a banderole?

Have they upgraded from ziploc bags cradled in wads of packing paper?

SP has always just come in baggies as far as I know.  Never had a scratch in all these years.  I heavily prefer a simple baggie.  Much less waste.   I always find keycap trays annoying.  The first thing I do is dump them all out and recycle the plastic.

have never had scratches, but multiple instances of "2 of one cap, none of another"
versus...60? GMK base sets without a problem. I think qc easier in trays
just check em when they arrive and the vendors can help you. Kono and Drop got me sorted.

It will be Ziploc bags as per the usual. The new trays are not ready yet.

Color is fantastic. Just as I had imagined.  My phone is really bad with accuracy on blues, so I’ve put it next to some other blue SA sets you guys might know for reference

Just got mine and put them on a board. They came out SO good - the color, the legends, everything is spot on. This was easily one of the best GBs I've been a part of, in terms of turnaround, communication, pricing, end product, etc. Huge thanks to Fredington and I'm looking forward to your other projects.

Not a peep from DeskHero. I'm assuming those who have received their sets already are in the USA. I know that international shipping is a mess right now but I am disappointed in DeskHero for not even emailing updates. I had no idea this set was shipping at all.

Ugh +1 here. They do a lot of group buys so I am surprised they don't have an update yet. Lockdown in Canada in most cities is set to essential travel only, Christmas is supposed to be cancelled (not that people are taking it seriously, based on the infection rates)

I would message your vendor (NK?) then. I was under the impression everything was shipped as of last week.
