First time Dremel Recommendations and Using Dremel as a mini drill press

I'm thinking of doing a few projects where a small drill press would come in handy and am wondering if anyone uses the dremel one found here http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-220-01-Rotary-Tool-Station/dp/B00068P48O

I also do not have a dremel so I would need recommendations on a good one of those as well.

I'm interested in this as well..

I have a drill press, but it's very big and not good for precision work..

I'm looking for something smaller like this with what "I'm assuming" has less vibration therefore more precision..

That is downright economical.  I wonder if it would be possible to fit it with a cylindrical oven for injection molding.

If you get one, a review would be lovely.

Yeah, that's the dremel my grandfather has that I use often for case mods. Compatible with the press as well.

I use a Dremel 395 (no longer available), which is similar to the Dremel 200 series.  This is more than enough for my current needs.  It has less bells and whistles than the 4000 model (no electronic feedback, wrench tighten bits instead of easy attach [I prefer using the wrench], separate on/off switch) but the power output is about the same.  The lower end model costs about half the price for just the base instrument.  If you just want to use this on a few projects you might consider a downgrade. 

In support of getting the fancier 4000 model: This is a tool that should last a lifetime if you take care of it properly.  It makes sense to get something nice if you invest in one.

I do it by hand, but that would be sweet.

Dremels can have low torque, but high rpm, which makes it good for detail work. This won't replace a good drill press, but you can get by using it for small diameter bits on softer material. If you need to do fine work, get the flex shaft attachment. It'll reduce torque but give you a lot better control.

Then again, I'm an engineer so I like my tools. I think you'd be better off with the cheapest name brand corded Dremel and a separate table top still press.

I'd suggest that you spend $40 on the base model, maybe upgrade for variable speed control, but use the rest on bits and accessories.

Yo dawg..  How does that setup move  through making passes at the dremel head..

do you just  bolt the  piece you're working on ,, then  use the dremel lever and go up and down,  and move the bottom slides manually after each go?

Myself and others prefer the wrench, it gives better control and is one less feature to pay for or break. Also I'm not sure that the 4200 is compatible with the flex shaft, which is very handy if you need it later.

Have the Dremel work station thing, and used it for my bolt mod. I found it to be very well suited to the task. I did read in a few reviews that due to the high speed, low torque nature of the Dremel, one can't use it like one would a drill press and force the drill bit through material with the press. But that could be people talking out of their arses. Either way, I didn't find it a problem.

I got given the Dremel 4000 kit with flex shaft and a whole bunch of bits  for  my  birthday last year and couldn't be happier with it. Certainly a good kit to start Dremeling with.
