Who wants to give a presentation? Doesn't need to be long, and can be on anything!
Please reply with your topic and about how long you think your presentation will be.
Presenters:
HoffmanMyster - Polymer Processing
CPTBaddAss - Intro to ALPS
Evangs - First Build Log
obra - Keycap design / molding
Binge - Something interesting
i3oilermaker - Project Amalfi
-
I've still got my tangentially-related-to-keyboards presentation from last year that I never had the chance to give that's all ready to go.
It's on polymer processing, with some generic things that relate to us (polymer structure, extrusion) and some things specific to my career (flat die extrusion). The big difference between this presentation and one on injection molding is that the process I'll discuss ends with a roll of material instead of keycaps/etc. But let's be honest, injection molding is kind of boring (to talk about) anyway. :P
If this seems too far removed from what you'd like to see at KeyCon, feel free to omit it. But I'd be more than happy to present on it if people would like. :)
-
I would be interested and I think many other would be - especially if you can tie it into key making/manufacturing.
Might need a muzzle for Mkawa....
-
I'm getting ready to build my first mechanical board. I could document the process and present what I've learned and how I used the amazing tools this community has built to design and build my board.
-
I think I'd like to give a Introduction to Alps. Aiming for ten to fifteen minutes with examples to show.

At public meetings, we put time limits on the duration of comments. We'll need a firm, rule-oriented Master of Ceremonies of enforce these limits.

Agreed - I have done several "Lightning Talks" which are 5 minute auto-advancing powerpoint slides - quite a challenge!
I will follow up with presenters and make sure expectations are managed and time is kept.
-
If folks are interested, I could certainly do a bit on what it's been like to start a boutique keyboard company...or on the design decisions behind the Model 01.
-
I don't know if it warrants a "presentation" unless others feel they could benefit - but I'd really love to hear from someone talk about acrylic keyboard cases.
The history behind their use, limitations/challenges in using them, and a break down of the "layers" concept. I see a few Korean keyboard makers ending up with different number of layers to assemble a keyboard/etc.
Also is some acrylic better than others to use - or is it all basically the same?

Binge talked a bit about his experiences in modeling at KeyCon 1 and it was very interesting! I will put you down.
-
i can give a talk on how to heckle people giving talks.

And if it's successful, you won't have a chance to finish it. >:D

I'd be into this.

Most interested in this.

the point of heckling is to make sure that no one leaves satisfied.

Awesome. How long should I plan on talking? (And I see you've got me down to talk just about the caps. I'd been thinking more about the whole keyboard, which includes electronics, the enclosure, vendors, drinking, sobbing and code ;)
I can do whatever, but would rather do what people want.
-
we can maybe do 20 minute talks with 10 minutes for questions and another 30 for heckling? good? good? OK LET'S DO IT

Can we just do 60 minutes of heckling?
-
make it 12 hours and you've got the non-presentation portion of keycon
-
This is a last call for presenters - at the end of this week, I will be following up with presenters who have expressed interest for details.

I can't wait to see what "Something Interesting" will be, courtesy of Binge.

Finished my presentation today and I'll have some related goodies to hand out.
-
I...started my talk today :) And broke a bit in the mill, so won't have some of the extra goodies I'd hoped to bring with me. :((((
-
Obra your presentation was too good if you broke the mill bit. Please tone it down.

If by pallet you mean box then I hope you bring a lot of money and a truck.

Speaker pro tip: ALWAYS hand out goodies. And finish early, especially if you're just before lunch.

Sounds fair as long as the goodies are clacks. :p

I remember seeing Hoff's clacks and bros during the meet. Those were the very first ones I have seen in person and I blame him for my addiction. He just left them in the open so easy for everyone to admire and get hooked... :blank: :-\

That moment when you realize that tapatalk emoji looks different from the web browser.

Mostly finished the talk on the plane. It looks like it ended up being a visual history of Keyboardio development, with design decisions, tools, techniques, costs and what we've learned about various models.
I can talk about solid modeling of keycaps, dealing with china and various other stuff, but that's not in the slides.

Sounds great obra
