Very bumble.

Wow!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Stunning. Next year when I start to study I plan on building a 60-65% board. Your board is definitely a great way to do it.

If I recall the kmac2 can be mounted either to the top or bottom of the case.

you need to mount the plate to the top part. Mount on the top feels so much better.

Where'd you find the switches?  And do you think they are any smoother than vintage blacks?

I harvested them from an 1800 built by another user a while back, who I assume got them from one of those Ascaii PCBs from like two years ago.

Some in my batch are smoother than most switches I've ever used. But overall, no, I wouldn't definitively say they're smoother than all vintage blacks. That's only my opinion though - I'm sure others who have used them would quickly disagree. I'm not ashamed to admit that I just think Nixdorf switches are cool to have.

I always found smoothness comparisons to be pretty nebulous anyway, just due to all of the factors that make any single given switch feel the way it does. That, or my sensation of touch isn't as refined as others'.
