Thanks I'm really digging the pink too. I flip-flopped the polarities at first but luckily I sip socket my switches so it was an easy fix. First Korean board and couldn't be any happier. :)

Older KMAC(1.2/LE), Cheat if you want a TKL, for 60% Eagle and Viper can be found for around 400 if you are patient.

Well, if you wait  for GBs to pop up, buys like the eagle/viper and Octagon were under $400. I think the Octagon averaged around $360 total when shipped to the US. The Octagon v2 is coming in the next few months, so if you like 75% layouts, then that'd work for you.

Another Viper or Eagle GB does not seem likely for the foreseeable future thanks to the timeline truecustom/Duck has outlined.

Barring that, a generous aftermarket price or just buying an aluminum case and a PCB from GON, SPRiT, or Winkeyless.kr.

I'd worry less about the cost and more about finding one.  Those are not very common boards

Usually when you see a board go up for sale there isn't much thinking involve, if you second guess yourself it's probably sold by then. I've missed out a quite a few boards before. :(

yeah someone contacted me selling their orion v2 spot.  WTB is your friend don't underestimate those threads

Very true. I've also scored some nice finds from posting WTBs and the interests also led me to other avenues like getting a custom hard case for my Octagon and Lightpad thanks to Intelli giving me a heads up.

Sometimes though, if you really want something, you've got to go digging on other threads and keep an eye out for old classifieds that might've gone under the radar. I've gotten quite a few things that way.

I suppose it should be said that I also got scammed after bumping my WTB thread once. Very sour feelings toward the jerk that did that, but that's life.

Why LZ keyboard are so damn expensive?

Well, firstly, the cost of manufacturing and materials is going to run a couple hundred dollars at the very least.
You need to understand that with such a low number of produced boards that the cost of manufacturing will be inflated quite a bit.

The next thing you need to consider is that LZ wants something out of his work.
He isn't just going to give up his hard work at zero profit; he spends quite a lot of time designing these boards and organizing buys.

Finally, his boards cost so much because people will still buy them at that price. This attitude isn't exclusive to keyboards; just look at any collector's hobby.
$400 is pretty cheap for collectors, all things considered.

Yeah, banned by association pretty much. It's a shame that one guy ruined everything, because LifeZone made some really great looking customs. Twas before my time here, but I'm glad manofinterests posted the backstory on reddit, because I've always wondered why LZ customs were no where to be seen here.

Weight (the floating cases of Gon and WKL.kr are much lighter) and sound potentially, as full-bodied aluminum cases on Korean customs are typically high profile and so cover the switch housings where, as you mentioned, GON's and similar use a floating design which gives a more open, airy sound.

Feel might be a little different depending on plate materials. I'm not sure how much weight really affects a board. As long as it doesn't slide, which good non-slip pads can achieve, then I think weight isn't too important.

You would have to buy the Orion v2 off of someone now, since the GB is closed and orders are shipping out. The Orion v3 is likely going to come in late 2016 or early 2017 if Duck holds to his schedule.

Ducks have a lot of flashing lights too. :P

To me personally, the way the plate is mounted makes a big difference. Orion mounts the plate to the top frame, which is better than mounting the plate to the bottom or middle frame (as Gons Nerd TKL). Mounting to the bottom makes typing feel like hitting a rock, whereas mounting to the top frame gives you a more bouncy and soft feel.

Top mounting as well gives a much better thock sound. I'm using a plastic plate on my Orion so I don't notice it as much but love the feel of Zealios and a plastic plate.

That definitely makes sense, since the weight is more suspended and only anchored at the sides, so I'd guess the force is distributed differently. For now, the only boards I've had have been mounted to the case itself since I'm personally not a big fan of TKL, so all options were typically one-piece designs. The new Octagon is going to be a two piece design, so if it mounts like the Orion, then I'll have the opportunity.

The harshest typing feel I've ever experienced is the Infinity keyboard in 1st gen bent case with Alps. It feels good, but you can just tell there's a ton of shock against your joints.

The only experience I have with top plate mounting vs bottom is some old Alps vintages. My Dell AT101 is bottom-mounted and the FAME is top mounted. Not much of a difference there, but they aren't alu keyboards.
