The yellow keys are a nice touch :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Yeah, I've always thought blockers look a little sad, though when I first heard of them, they sounded really sweet.

But...

They're not. If there was a way to make the gap so small that it was barely able to be seen, or blend it with the board somehow, sure...  :-\

True, but pretty sure NERD has better keymapping with their GUI
But most of all, the draw point of a KMAC2 for me is the plate

I'm too lazy to desolder everything and re-use the plate with the NERD

I have to say, even though PC plate and SMD LEDs make backlighting so much better, linear switches and PC plate just don't go well together. KMAC plate + Nerd PCB is probably the best way to go.

What would you (or anyone else who has experience) say the best plate for clicky MX switches is? Just stainless steel, or aluminum, or a plastic-based flexible plate like acrylic or PC?

I agree with you but I also like plastic for clicky/tactile. I have a plastic plate with zealios on my Orion, definitely a lot quieter but the tactility feels amazing. Aluminum definitely gives it a much better sound.

Looks like I'll be buying all of the plates for the Octagon v2, just to be sure, lol. I hear that the most flexible plates are best for tactiles, like ergo clears and zealios (which do feel great PCB mount). Definitely agree that something solid feels nice for linears, as I have SS on my Octagon w/ vintage Blacks, and they feel great, as do the SKCL Green Alps on a carbon fiber plate.

I plan on using vintage MX whites with translucent stems swapped into Zealio housings so the RGB will glow through the entire switch. :D I might pick aluminum if it's the best in-between for sound and feel, as Steezus mentions.

yeah steezus, clicky or tactile switches feels pretty okay on a acrylic plate but the thought of putting an acrylic plate into a fully non plastic keyboard defeats the purpose, at least for me.

and e3e, since you're going to use white switches then alu plate should do just fine.

I've haven't gotten any chance to try out zealios. :<
