Cute little mushrooms, they are only about 1cm tall ...

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

My only photo from the trip to Russia.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Guess who is going for fixed forks from now on?

Metal fatigue on my front suspension. Was just cycling to work this morning when I noticed my steering wheel was at an odd angle.
When I stopped to check it out, the entire wheel disconnected. The actual suspension stopped working several years ago but this still shouldn't happen on an 8 year old bike.

to me it seems perfectly fine for stuff that doesn't get maintainance in 8!! years to break down like that, it's a suspension fork designed to have stress relived by the suspension, you go figure what happens when it locks and you just continue using it for years -_-

I would agree with you on that, except for that it was still working and not locked up.
Took it to a repair place a few years back when it started creaking and was told these things were non-maintainable. He could put some oil on and that was it.

How long do you expect a bike to work?

This thing has been a crapfest for the past couple of years with parts breaking down that shouldn't.
  • Aluminum crank arm that snaps in half?
  • Aluminum handle bar that just bends when I grab the bike from a rack?
  • Axle stays that just snap or eat right through the aluminum, taking the entire gear cable with it?
  • Aluminum kick stand that just rots away and falls completely off?
  • Chain guard that shatters whenever you take it off to maintain the chain or tighten it?

To me that isn't just a lack of maintenance or me being too strong for the bike. This sounds like bad quality parts to me.

haha, yeah, with the added info i'd say you bought a crappy bike to begin with but with the original info provided it didn't seem like anything strange :)

Didn't use much of the root vegetables since my preggy wife is not kin on the strong smell

Thanks Jokrik! I bookmarked the page and will have to try it. The recipe is easily adaptable for a diary-free version :). As for no root vegetables, maybe try replacing them with cauliflower or eggplant or even (fava) beans? Just thinking of what else would go well in a stew  ;D.

Made a beef stew yesterday :)
That looks AMAZING! Esp love the details in the picture, like the oven mitts 'holding' the cover. Nicely done! Do you have a recipe you'd like to share?
Thank you!

I used this recipe as the base but tweak it a bit.

Thing with non root veg like cauliflower, you have to put it in at the last second
else it would go mushy, overcooked and change the texture of the stew overall

and moreover, slow cook recipes would get better by days when they get heated up, and if you put veg like as you said, you wont get the best out of it since it will again way overcook it

You can maybe try it with broccoli stalk, it's quite a popular ingredients atm and it can stand the reheat and slow cook :)

Thought about posting this in the Mail Today thread, but this one is probably a better fit...

Yours?  Congrats!

Yep, our second. A healthy baby girl. Mom and baby are doing great. Thanks!

But how is dad doing??  ;)  Congrats!  :D

Dad's doing fine, although nothing makes a man feel more useless than watching a mother with a newborn. Really, until they move on to baby food, dad just sits there and tries not to look completely helpless...

Thanks for the congrats, everyone.

From this last weekend.  I went down to SDCC with a group of friends.  We also did a bit of a beer crawl and ended up at Mission Brewery playing Cards Against Humanity with our group and a few strangers that were at the table.  Great people and great times.

It is very cool, but also very crowded.  It really wears on you just making it from one end of the hall to the other.  The photo above of the Went booth is showing a pretty average amount of people for the event - it got much worse in some areas.
