[IC] SA Polyclear GB LIVE!

Promo Video

GB LIVE!

SA Polyclear on the Mysterium by CFTKB rendered by SpikedSynapse.

Kitting

Here's a brief explanation for my kitting; the kits are split out this way because of how the MOQ system works for signature plastics.
Transparent keycaps work well with all the other cap sets out there so having them split out this way means more people can buy replacements for keys/bits they might not have otherwise picked up with some other sets.

R2/R4 SA are the same sculpt on rotation, so please take this into account.
I have most of the more common 40s boards supported within Alphas/40s kits, unfortunately due to little to no overlap with other boards and the increase in price for those extra keys I wasn't able to support the Prime-E or TMOV2 with just the Alphas/40s.
There's QAZ, Minivan, NeuronV2 and Whimsy support just to name a few! KLE if it's easier to work with for you.
Kitting Calculator made by poster Ramble, copy the spread to edit.

Scenes

SA Polyclear with:
SA Nightlight by Frosty on the Boston120 by Bluepylon --- SA Ramses by Avrocado on the QAZ by Whydobearsxplod
SA Spectra by Nasp on the Whimsy by PRKNS --- SA Espresso by Jpoc on the M0lly by TheKeyCompany
SA Polyclear on the Ikki68 by Wuque Studio --- SA Fledgling by Andromache on the Rotor by Popsmoke.

Prototypes
I had some prototypes made, namely some 9u bars.

An extreme closeup reveals the shot pattern that only occurs on the longer keycaps, this pattern is barely visible under normal conditions.

Q/A

With lead times being so long what's the lead time on this set?
I've been talking with Signature Plastics for a while they've allowed me to say that from the point of being invoiced the lead time for this set will be 3months.

There's 2u,2.25u and 2.75u Convex bars in the Alphas are they actually convex?
Yes, I confirmed with SP that they have those moulds available.

How long is the IC going to be?
Roughly 1 month if all things go well, most of the groundwork has been done. I just need to gauge interest and get feedback on any changes needed.

Are these caps made of polycarbonate?
Yes.

I'm concerned about getting scratches
Polycarbonate is a harder material than ABS and is equivalent to PBT, under normal use you should not be scratching your keycaps.

Very interested. Would be neat if there was an R3 only alphas kit, but I'm not complaining.
Perhaps Zion Studios for SEA/PH?

This looks great -- I just had one suggestion on kitting (which I also put in the form):

Please consider adding a support for split right shift (1.75u/1u R4) in the mods kit. This will be especially helpful for both HHKB and Arisu users -- otherwise they'll need to buy the 40's kit for a single key (1.75u R4)

That’s insane. And your prototype test subject is a 9u bar? That’s insane.

+1 for the 65% users.

Apologies this was included in the KLE and my intended kitting for purchase just forgot to include it in the render, it's being fixed now. Sorry for the mistake.

This looks great, been wanting to try SA for a while but been held back by layout issues; this (being blank) might give me the perfect opportunity!

One suggestion: please consider moving the extra ISO alpha keys (the ones next to the ISO enter and the split left shift) into the alphas kit, rather than mods.  They are alpha keys, and if the idea is that people who just want clear mods to go with an existing alpha kit can just buy the mods kit, or people who just want clear alphas to go with an existing mods kit can just buy the alphas, this won't work for ISO users who will have to buy the whole mods kit just for the sake of two keys (in the case that they wanted alphas), or will always end up with two keys unused (in the case that they just wanted mods).

Tbh, I'd prefer it if the number row (including the left half of the split backspace) was included in the alpha set as well, but it seems like you made an explicit choice to group those with mods so I won't argue the point on that one.

Otherwise, love the idea, love the look, in awe of the lead time (!), and looking forward to hearing about pricing :)

Thanks for the kind words, will strongly consider doing this. If you still require a number row you can use the FROW kitting as a supplement instead since it's all R1 this way the pricing is kept lower for the 40s users whilst having no price increase for most other users.

I’m down like a mofo.

A endorsement from the man himself!

Very cool set and kitting seems very flexible. A couple notes re: 40s kitting - an additional R4 1u for ortho support and potentially 2 more R3 1.25u caps for boards like prime_e which uses 7x 1.25u in total I see this was decided upon in OP. Definitely consider the extra R4 1u though

Although I would prefer just buying bulk 1u caps rather than full sets. Is that a possibility? Would be great if there was say, 100 packs of 1u R3 or something.

Question about the Stepped Caps Lock, is the stem indeed going to be centered to that of a non-stepped version or is that just the render?

R4 is pretty much an upsidedown R2. So if you are talking about 12u ortho, you could use that R2 in the 40s kit as an R4 modifier.

That's true, I guess you can use the 13th R4 1u and move it to R2. I think in general it's pretty restrictive on ortho anyway (1x 2u bar and need to use scooped homing on R3 for that to work) but a separate bars kit would solve some of that and I would always use homing anyway. I guess upon second viewing it's pretty restrictive for 40s layouts with a few extra keys here and there, but it meets minimum needs for a lot of popular boards.

If I get enough responses that I think I can split out a uniform R3 kit I will for sure consider it.

That's just my mistake on the render, I double checked with SP it's actually centered on the non-stepped portion, sorry about this.

Literally did not see the google form. Filled out!

As per my form, I think this would be a great opportunity for vendors to stock blank 1u caps. There is literally no source of this in the world.

It would also help support countless ortho and other layout boards, in conjunction with one of the kits for longer caps if needed.

Pack size - I think 20-40 would be a size so people can order multiples to reach the amount they want. I would prob go for a few hundo.
