Hi there, I'm new here and also in the mechanical keyboards world!
I discovered a month ago what's a TKL keyboard and decided I want one really bad.

Now that I was lurking around and searching for infos, I also know that I want Mx-Brown switches and a QWERTY layout!  :thumb:

Only problem: I'm living in France and want to pay only 150€< with shipment...  :-\

Let's do it!  ;D

Hi. I'm currently in France and want to sell my quickfire TK. Are you interested? If you're in Paris, we can even meet up in person!

Hi, this is my first time posting on geekhack, forums make me a bit nervous!!

I joined geek hack because I am super into keyboard customization and interesting key caps. I have created my own line of extremely limited edition key caps out of cast resin. My key caps are much more sculptural than Clacks and other existing brands, yet they are fully functional with cherry MX switches. They are just more like collectors items than gaming products, they are meant to be purchased by people who are really into collecting and customizing their keyboards! If you are into that, check out my work.

Here is my Holodekk Key Cap website. As of now, I have terminated production (I just moved to NYC and couldn't bring all my casting supplies). I hope to take down the website by as early as December 4th (in 9 days), and the editions on my website will probably never be reproduced. (hence the title of the website):

www.liquidateholodekk.com

I really hope there are some collectors out there who will give my key caps cool custom homes.  :-* :p

Hey guys.
New guy here. Just got my first MK. (Yay hype.exe)
It's a Poker 2 with Blue switches and I'm loving it.
I'm planning on getting some new keycaps, a sleeved cable and maybe an aluminum case, but I live in Denmark and kinda need to find some retailers first.
Just came to say Hi.

Poker is a very popular keyboard :)

Pexon specialises in custom cables, and is in the UK, which might be the closest.

New here. I actually joined the cult back in May when I got my Monoprice board with MX Blues, but I've recently been getting sucked in more because these things are crack. I got my first fixer upper board recently, an old Kinesis Essential, because I like how funky it looks, and I'm currently eyeing a Ducky Shine 4 with browns because I'm tired of getting complaints about my Blues going CLACK and the shiny lights are fun.

So, hi.  :)

Hello.  I have been looking around for about 6 months for a Cyrillic only keycap set.  Geekhack kept showing up as THE spot to check out rare keycap sets, so here I am.  I should have started with and introduction first but I was so psyched about making my own keycap design I started backwards.  So, hello.  Pardon my being so green, rolling up with questions that were posted in the Read Here first section.  Thanks for the politeness in not (deservedly) flaming the bejesus out of me.  Much love.

Recently got interested in Mechanical keyboards so starting looking for it and I feel so lost. /r/mechanicalkeyboard and GH seems to be the right place to hang-around and know more before my first mechanical keyboard purchase.
Seeing all the amazing keyboards on his forum I feel I am missing out so much on keyboards.

Also am I allowed to post in here with my super-advanced basic-silly, 4-5 year old keyboard?
The Logitech Internet Pro Keyboard.88947-0

P.S. : Please, PS/2 should be the allowed answer while registering. I tried PS/2, COM and then USB.

Much love.

Welcome to Geekhack!

I don't recall seeing a modern Cyrillic-only keyset.  There have been a few pictures of really old Soviet keyboards that are Cyrillic-only.

You might try PMing IvanIvanovich and see if he's encountered any.

Great.

Welcome to Geekhack!

This thread has gots lots of general background information that might help you start to decide.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I'm currently using a Roccat Ryos mk pro with cherry mx browns (iso german)...

But since i didn't feel much like taking pics of that i took some of this Baby instead!  =)

I just registered to contribute to development of a custom-made trackball, hopefully a worthy replacement for the aging Microsoft Trackball Explorers I use.

Nothing wrong with having extra keycap sets!  I have about a dozen spare sets, plus at least three more on the way!  Rotating keycap sets on my favourite keyboards helps stop one particular set getting too shiny.

Man, moneypit is right. Purchased a Logitech G710+ 4 months ago and it's been downhill since. I discovered keycaps. Then I discovered different profiled keycaps, then I discovered cases. Then I discovered the G710+ is hard to find a good bottom row that fits. Got a Poker 2, missed my arrow keys. Ordered a Leopold fc660m and looking for a TKL I might like. Now I spend a lot of time on my phone looking for inspiration designing and color coding my boards. And then I found geekhack. Yay. Anyways, great to be here. Or is it?

Hi, all. So, Model M finally broke. Picked up a a CM Rapid SI (pre-release) as a stop-gap to replace it. I hadn't shopped for keyboards for a while and didn't know they were having a bit of a Renaissance. A little research brought me here; de-lurking to review the SI and sell it in the Classifieds.

//edit: Discovered I can't sell it in the classifieds without more posts. :) Review stands, but FS is over @mechmarket. :p

Hi I'm new here.

I'm a architect programmer by trade, and hobbyist musician/artist so most my life runs through my hands and often my computer/tablet.

I have been interested in increasing the bandwidth between humans and machines for even before having a computer (wishing I could visualize and have my lego constructions built by thought alone).

I have similar needs from tendonsis, being a hardcore programmer/gamer for so many years, I have been increasingly forced to look at lower force keyboards and alternate input methods, to this end I am trying to experiment and use myself as a guinea pig.

Here's my main setup a pipe desk with 4 multimontor, that can do sit, stand, sit on floor, zero gravity reclining, treadmill etc.
https://instagram.com/p/uMCMgrJ0nz/?modal=true

Here's a current portable setup, a pipe desk 2 multimonitor setup, easy to transport.
https://instagram.com/p/v7v7jgJ0hj/?modal=true

Here a  variation prototype a meditation bench and closer view of keyboard tray. Which I'll go over more in a minute.
https://instagram.com/p/yDnPqKJ0rt/?modal=true

How I keep my Ipad near for testing/hands free reading via a mic stand.  https://instagram.com/p/yFw1geJ0ub/?modal=true

As shown in the meditation bench, what I'm currently using for a keyboard is scissor action BTC mini multimedia keyboard, which I think has 35-45 activation force, low distance travelled, soft bottoming out. And a Kensington optical trackball, on a homemade lapdesk out of a artist sketching board and memory foam, that fits on my chair and in a standing configuration, the goal to support fully the arms so the trapezius and neck relax.

I found a couple years ago going to Fry's and trying every keyboard, mouse and trackball out there to see if any were close, and the BTC has beat out Apple keyboards, and even my exotic fingerworks touchstream for normal use.  On the bonus they are super cheap. Sadly they aren't made anymore, but can be found on ebay from time to time.  BTC still makes keyboards and the newer ones might be similar.

However I'd like to get to something even lower force and something that I can hack to my needs, with parts that won't disappear.  Thus my interest in mechanical keyboard and cherry switches, which sadly look like they will all be too high force for what I ideally want, after getting a useful keysampler from maxkeyboard.

I also have tried recently the lightio keyboard (uses optical beams no keys to press) but really wasn't that useful, dumb matrix, error prone with no positional or tactile feedback, unergonomic fixed grid, so had to return it.

I have found that a ipad onscreen keyboard can be useful at times if you can train yourself not to press harder than dimpling the pad of the finger.  I'm currently looking at creating a keyboard in software on an android which can detect pressure sensitivity roughly to try and make it so you can keep fingers on the tablet, and then press harder to activate the key. Sadly the IOS disabled this feature, even though the capacitive sensor can supposedly see the finger above the tablet a couple centimeters.

I am also looking at Leap motion sensor to watch the hand, but it gets complicated as the hand ideally  needs to be supported all the time.

 ;D Greetings everyone!
I'm a college student and PC enthusiast, who's always wanted to "officially" join Geekhack, but has kept putting it off due to the constant barrage of schoolwork an accounting/law double major has to put up with. But I'm finally here! I first discovered Geekhack a few years ago, just a high school student burning my wrists off on a Logitech Elite (rubber dome) when I finally realized the weakest link of my entire setup was my keyboard. A few months later, I was off to college with my Unicomp EnduraPro, custom ordered, and equipped with keyboard wisdom. I can totally vouch for the fact that a passion for keyboards (and nearly all of my other hobbies is an excessively expensive and time consuming pastime, but I truly enjoy every minute of it. That old Logitech is the only rubber dome that I still keep around, as I throw all others into a pile in my basement back at home. My daily weapon of choice is the EnduraPro 103-key layout, and I also have the Corsair K70 RGB, The Topre Type Heaven, A Black-logo Model M, a, IBM Model M13, an original IBM Spacesaver, an IBM Model F, a Lenovo Thinkpad Scissor-Switch portable keyboard (w/trackpoint), several mechanical Logitechs, and a WASD Code (Cherry White) in the mail.
I can't wait to spend a ton of time with you guys, and further my enjoyment of my favorite computer accessory even more!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Perhaps Gateron 30g switches might be more to your liking.

There is a group buy for them here - and either you or someone could mod a standard keyboard and replace Cherry MX switches with these.  Benefits of both worlds - very light weight switches, and standard Cherry form factor.

;D Greetings everyone!

Greetings Geeks

I recently left the boring world of membrane keyboards(except at work )and went mechanical.

Used to game on a Z-Board Merc then upgraded to a steelseries Merc Stealth (only difference is that the body and keys are black and backlit). Due to its layout it quickly became one if my favorite gaming keyboards. Reaching the whole top number row is a win for MMOs.

Found a pretty good deal (I thought so) on a lightly used Logitech G710+. The previous owner also threw in a crap bag. This is what it looked liked before swapping back to stock keys (no o-rings)

Future plans are to buy those LED covers and make the backlight red. Change the orange trim to a faux brushed aluminum and get ZINC or aluminum WASD keys and spacebar.

Welcome to Geekhack!

It's amazing what you can do with a Crap Bag if you're lucky!

What colour backlight has it got now?  LED colour changers work best with white LEDs.

Been lurking for a while now.  A C# developer by trade, I was looking for split keyboard options a month ago before I ran into the ergodox and thus the world of mechanical keyboard enthusiasts.  Currently awaiting the arrival of a partial build from Falbatech and a Poker 2 from overseas.  Maybe I'll have something worthy to post in a month or two.

Ergo Dox is a very popular and versatile split keyboard.  Some of the builds people here have are amazing!  Have a look!

Anyway there's lot of places for you to post even before you get your Ergo Dox :)

Hey oh!

I just discovered this awesomely dangerous new world last week. The concept hadn't really occurred to me that you can build your own (awesome) leopards. I switched to the Dvorak layout a few years ago and am looking forward to building my own custom ergo board with the inspiration I'm finding here. Thanks guys!

Welcome to Geekhack!

There is a wealth of information here about Dvorak keyboards, and about building your own keyboard.

The ergonomics section might be a good place to start discussing Dvorak :)

Hello!

I'm the designer over at Massdrop and new to mechanical keyboards. My first keyboard was a WASD and now I'm on a Leopold 66key that I love.

I joined geekhack because everyone at Massdrop is obviously huge into mechanical keyboards and I want to be able to better understand the community.

Cheers!
-Erik
