KAM Little Pilot

This keyset is inspired by visual identity elements of Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs, and named after the nickname of the film's main character.
Little Pilot is the second ever KAM profile keyset, and after multiple rounds of samples, it's time for the group buy!

About KAM

KAM is a uniform keycap profile from Keyreative, the makers of KAT.
It features thick PBT plastic with a glossy finish and dye-sublimated legends.

One question, since I have never used the KAM profile and the shiny/glossy keycaps, would you say it feels "greasy" when you put your fingers on the keycap? I don't know if that makes sense.

This is the fist shiny set that I've seen and really wanted. Something about the colors and theme just seem to work with that texture for me. Count me in. Not sure how they feel with gloss texture, but I have some of the shiny polycarb caps from Rama and it's quite nice. Hope they feel about the same.

It doesn't feel greasy to me, feels more like an iPhone screen or other smooth/glossy surfaces, except concave. It is possible to get fingerprints on them though, because of the finish.

KAM is my favorite profile. It's the smoothest and shiniest out there. Highly recommended if you've never tried it. This is only the 2nd KAM keyset to be released.

Only KAM Starry Night. I'm not sure about long term usage, but don't think the surface will change very much over time.

I'm still hoping you will choose the longer legend versions on the keys whose sizes allow it. like on the 1.75u keys for ctrl and especially fn, I think it would look significantly better to use control and function. please consider this! the tiny "fn" legend on such a big key would look silly!

Can definitely consider it, I tried it out and it really just affects the Exotic mods and isn't a huge change, I can have them spelled out in the final templates I send out after the group buy. Thanks for another great suggestion stoffelduss 🙏

All of them, the way it works with this manufacturer is that the colorway as a whole must get orders that in total consist of 24k pieces, which was reached. (It does not work like this with other manufacturers, like GMK, where each kit has its own MOQ and the MOQ is counted based on kits, not on pieces within a kit)

I kind of realized after it closed that the alpha kit does not include homing row keys. Is there any way at all for me to get a homing kit after the GB closed??

I know it's a stretch, but figured I'd ask!

Hey, the base alphas include homing and non-homing keys for F and J (look in the lower right corner of the render). If you would like homing keys for the classic alternative homing position for D and K, I can send you those at shipping cost (I'm in the EU). You're probably not using some layout that's not QWERTY, are you? In that case you would need to pay attention to homing kits :/

/edit: To clarify and to make future buying decisions easier, the homing kits are generally just for people who use more eccentric non-standard layouts or in this case also retro middle finger homing keys. If you're using a standard layout you don't need to worry about homing kits generally. If you want to learn more about non-standard layouts, I'd suggest googling Colemak layout. (That's the one the homing T and N in the homing kit are for)

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.
I use Qwerty, I just realized afterwards that there was an individual homing keys, and noticed that only some renders of the set actually included the homing keys on them. That actually helps a lot for future sets though.

Got mine a few days ago. I am very pleased with the printing quality – the legends are crisp and sharp, even on the modifiers. I had thought that they would be using reverse dyesub for the mods; but it seems like printing everything, including the legends and the color of the keycaps, paid off really well. While there are some places where the typeface could've used ink traps to prevent loss of detail, e.g. some lowercase 'r' characters in the mods start to look like 'г' (loss of detail in the shoulder), there are no bleed problems that make the characters fuzzy, like in my Infinikey WoB set. I'm very happy with this trade-off, and the results speak for themselves.

The "exotic" kit is missing the tab key added for HHKB support.

So now my exotic+alphas combo for my HHKB is useless. Gutted. Waited a year for this

EDIT list of all problems with this kit:

Missing 1u "Esc" (in red)
Extra 1u "Fn"
Missing 1.5u "Tab"
Unexpected 1.75u stepped "Ctrl"
Missing 2.25u "Enter" (in red)

Apparently mykeyboard.eu are aware of the issue and have reported it to the supplier already.

Sorry that happened Joshimitsu, I've heard from mykeyboard.eu about the issue and am working with vendors to see what they can do to about errors in Keyreative's manufacturing/QC. 😢

Everyone that bought the set, if you notice issues please contact your vendor so they can collect details for potential replacements. It's unfortunate but after I approved the last round of samples that had 0 legend/centering/color problems, it was all in the manufacturer's hands. And it does seem like there were oversights made in the manufacturing process. 😫

Don't worry about it, it's clearly Keyreative's mistake so I'm sure they will want to rectify it. In the meantime I will just look at the keys as they are very nice

I did notice a lot of scratches on the shine of the modifier keys though. Assuming because they are black it's easier to spot them? A little unfortunate to unbox them that way but I guess with the finish it's an inevitability anyway.

I picked up a NIB set w/ both Base mods and Exotics second hand, so the two missing keys aren't a big deal, but it would be nice to complete the Exotic kit. Unfortunately Keyreative used an older version of the legends template without the proper number sizes and ÷/× symbols. I told zFrontier who said they would investigate but I haven't heard back yet. Best thing to do for any missing keys and numpad fixes is to reach out to the vendor you ordered from so they can compile these issues and request fixes from the manufacturer directly.

Unfortunately Keyreative used an older version of the legends template without the proper number sizes and ÷/× symbols. I told zFrontier who said they would investigate but I haven't heard back yet. Contacted the vendor regarding the missing caps from the Exotics kit and they said they're not in contact w/ Zfrontier or Keyreative and to contact them directly. I'll try pinging ZF, but I'm getting the impression no one involved cares enough for this to be anything but dead in the water at this point. Considering their backlog, it's a bit hard to imagine Keyreative spinning up production for two keycaps from a set they've long since shipped.

From what I know, TKC (the primary vendor) recently reached out to zFrontier directly about the issues but are waiting for a response 😥 I'm assuming that if/when fixes start to happen TKC will reach out to all the proxies for orders and distribution. I'm hoping Keyreative can make things right 🤞

Just received the set and surprise surprise, it's missing the exact same keys. Kevin, has Keyreative responded to this? I can't use this set since I only have an HHKB and Planck, and I only bought Alphas + Exotics.

I haven't gotten a response from Keyreative since I last inquired ): Will ping someone from TKC to check in on the missing keys situation. Communication from Keyreative has been unfortunately spotty 😢

Hi friends, finally some good news! Keyreative is completing production on the missing keys tomorrow and are expected to ship them to all the vendors around May 7th. 🙏
