[IC] Cherry profile POM sets?
« on: Sat, 02 May 2015, 19:29:44 »
I've been looking into getting some Cherry profile POM sets made. They will be made with Gateron. Sets will be available as BLANK ONLY! Estimated price is $27-35 per set, full 104 key ANSI plus extras 1.5 mods, 1.75 shift, 7x spacebar... and some additional 1x bottom row keys. 1800 support may also be a possibility.

Custom colors are possible! So I wanted to gauge some interest in what most people would like to see. My suggestions are white, bright orange, lime green, magenta, electric blue, purple. It may be possible to have them opaque or 'jelly' style semi translucent. MOQ will be 300 sets, so I will play it safe and go with a single color at a time to get the best numbers... unless it really looks like we can handle two colors with sheer numbers. They are much cheaper than what we are used to around here after all.
Post what you would like to see happen.

Do you know if a 6U spacebar is a possibility (Infinity Hacker layout)? Infinity support would probably help boost numbers.

I would love jelly white.

I think most of the gh community would like different colors but I think most of us would like them to be jelly style.

I still think most of the comunity would like jelly white.

Maybe, the other gh people will prove me wrong.

We already have blank black cherry POM sets.
If I had to choose only one colour among many, it would most definitely not be black.

I don't think I have seen samples of Gateron POM.

^ What he said.

Also ...

1. I wasn't aware that Gateron made keycaps.  Is it possible they also have tooling for Alps?  And if so, can those be part of the MOQ?

2. I'm pretty sure down the road I'm going to get a Royal Kludge RGB board so I'd probably want to stick with clear/opaque/jelly translucent.

3. Would it be possible to offer a "DAS II Rescue Kit" option?  Only 2 Black POM keycaps for the non-standard Capslock and Spacebar.

Is there a GB active now?

I'd love some jellies. White is great for LEDs. I'd like very diffusive keys to even out the light.

For colors pink and white is nice; I saw a POM board w/ pastel jellies and white mods which looks like it's made of soft candies. Mmmmm.

Blank caps are easier for us that will ask for an ISO Enter, as legends are not a problem.

Scoops just feel right, like a perfectly fitting glove.

Definitely interested in trying a POM set :thumb:

Concerning colors:

Black is already available, so we should skip that option IMO.

White is probably a safe choice that goes with almost everything, but my actual favorite is electric blue!!

Opaque in this context means jelly (see OP). Not trying to be pedantic, just hopefully clearing up confusion. It's kind of confusing because lexically, opaque is the opposite of transparent. Maybe a better term for jelly would be semi-opaque.

Interested in lime green! Less interested in jelly.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

They are much cheaper than what we are used to around here after all.
Post what you would like to see happen.

OMG! Big YES to all of those Ivan!  :thumb:

Would be super excited about Cherry profile POM Blanks!
Also like the idea of splitting it up to different buys, so you your wallet won't get rekt as much all at once, but two at a time should still be fine I think!  xD

Regarding transparency, semi-opaque/jelly style would be my preference, especially for a white set.
Color wise, pretty much everything you listed sounds amazing and I also really like FrostyToast's idea of a jelly-grey/smoke color.

Especially love White, Lime (slightly pale and or vivid), Pink and Purple (both pale and or vivid).

For Custom Colors: What about Vivid-Cyan, Pale-Teal and (FrostyToast's) Smoke-grey?  :)

Jelly white and jelly orange!

Either as 2 separate sets or white base with orange mods. I'd also buy black, ideally one full set of each colour (white, orange, black) so I can mix and match as I feel.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

Guys the OP is talking about full sets of blanks.

IMO sticking to full one color sets would probably be the best.

Since the estimated price is very reasonable you could just pick up multiple sets to mix and match as you want which would also result in more unique/creative combinations being used.
If the GB will be done with one or two colors at a time it gets a nice timeline/collecting vibe and won't hurt you wallet too much to add another color to your collection like maybe every two month. =)
In addition doing only two full sets at a time should also help to reach MOQ, since full sets would be appealing to people that want to use it stand alone as well as people that want to mix and match. (while for example having two colors standalone as well as mixed would split the interest between the two and both may potentially not reach MOQ)

(while for example having two colors standalone as well as mixed would split the interest between the two and both may potentially not reach MOQ)
Fair enough. Let's make 2 sets with the 2 tones of Dolch then! I'm kidding but I would love these colors.

I don't really know what to think about the opaque/jelly choice. I'm not a big fan of transparent but I've never tried them.

So far it seems like jelly white is the clear favorite, followed by jelly lime green, then jelly gray/smoke.

At some point once the replies indicate a few more standout favorites, a poll would be a good way to see who all is interested in each color.

Sorry I didn't want to be a buzzkill, just figured it would be simpler...  :)

Dolch colors sounds sweet! Im confused if you meant semi-opaque/jelly or real opaque tho?

Imo ever so slightly transparent (so semi opaque/jelly) would look great for pretty much all color options. (So basically not see through but transparent enough to let light pass thru or diffuse light)
Im not a big fan of completely transparent either tbh, but it also depends a lot on the color. (I imagine white not to work great since it might be just clear, while dark purple for example would probably work better)

Doing Dolch colors could even be an idea for themed GBs. So you could have Dolch themed colors for one GB, Miami themed for the next just as an example. So every GB would be two matching colors, that also go together as a set basically?

I would very much love a bright (Hyperfuse style) Cyan. Together with (light) smoke and purple this would probably make for some sweet Hyperfuse add ons or a Hyperfuse inspired mix!  :thumb:
