Hi all,

With my current project soon moving out of my hands I am starting to gauge interest for something I’ve been wanting for quite a while. There won’t be a lengthy explanation as to why I chose this theme - I just like it; having been surrounded by nordic design since I was young I’ve grown quite fond of this dark navy colour. This is the first full keyset I’ve designed so I’m keeping it nice and simple with just 2 kits and an uncontroversial colour scheme.

GMK Deep Navy is a sleek and professional keyset featuring custom dark navy keys with WS1 legends.

Base:

The base kit provides compatibility for 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL, 1800 and full-size boards, with support for ISO. Accent keys are included for those who want to bring a bit of flare to their board.

Addition:

A spacebars kit with 40% and Alice-layout compatibility.

RAMA Cap:

Anodised aluminium with white enamel infill.

Deskmat:

Nordic night - designed by Sour.

Vendors and Pricing:

North America: CannonKeys

Base: $125
Addition: $33
RAMA: $38
Deskmat: $17

Europe: MyKeyboard

Base: €135
Addition: €35
RAMA: €41
Deskmat: €19

Canada: Deskhero

Base: $184 CAD
Addition: $49 CAD
RAMA: $45 CAD
Deskmat: $26 CAD

Southeast Asia: Monokei

Base: $180 SGD
Addition: $48 SGD
RAMA: $58 SGD
Deskmat: $25 SGD

Oceania: Daily Clack

Base: $208 AUD
Addition: $55 AUD
RAMA: $69.50 AUD
Deskmat: $27 AUD

China: zFrontier

Base: ¥898
Addition: ¥235
RAMA: ¥270
Deskmat: ¥120

Rest of Asia: zFrontier

Base: $145
Addition: $35
RAMA: $39
Deskmat: $20

Packaging:

Logo on front, nordic night on back - designed by Sour.

I recommend you take a look at the renders on a computer screen as phone screens boost contrast especially on darker colours, making this seem a lot more dark than intended.

Special Thanks:
To Abec13 for the great kit feedback and renders as always
To upas for taking this project on and being incredibly helpful with educating me about the GMK process
To Sour for the spectacular deskmat and packaging, and for being so cooperative in the process
To the Necros for putting up with my pestering questions since the beginning
To Kate for the help with the artisan design
To the rest of the vendors for agreeing to run the project <3

Hey everyone, please view on a computer screen, not your phone. Many phone displays these days are AMOLED which boost contrast and makes this appear much darker. :)

Looks black to me.

Will find it in my PC - but so far I like the concept :)

Edit: Expecting a very dark Cypher, this may be a nice pairing. Good luck! :)

I'm kinda wondering if instead of simply ditching the (white) accent keys, there could instead be medium blue accent keys to serve the same purpose (with the same white for the legends/icons).

Also, ISO terminal style: good! (but delete the tertiary legend (*) from the R4 <> key, as it looks weird as the only one in the entire board)

(*) I can't believe I'm advocating taking a tertiary legend out, but that's what things have come to.

Beautiful. One of those sets which could be a must buy, staple of my collection... so long as the GB price is reasonable.

Really nice colorway.

Hopefully we get a similar green version one day. Nothing wrong with people getting inspired and coming up with more good ideas, even if they're similar to previously existing ideas.

Thanks for the support <3

I've received a lot of good feedback on discord too, however one thing that quite a few people have said is that the colour looks a little too dark on phone, so as Abec said I strongly advise looking at it on your computer screen instead since the colour on there is just as I want it. I added a picture of 282C with GMK WS1 to the main body of the post.

Here's a quick comparison of 282C and GMK CR:

Wish some of these sets were in the reverse dye pbt like Hive. It's hard to justify paying prices for sets that will shine in 4/5 months. Regardless of how beautiful this is.

Just makes them unsellable honestly. Maybe if they shined equally. But no one is going to sell/trade for some heavily worn wasd keys. Haha. I just don't get shine love. But maybe I never will :D

I don't game, so they wear relatively evenly via typing. Shift and space get the most shine on them. But you're right, they'll never wear evenly. Part of the 'patina' of a keyboard for me. Though, I also don't intend to resell them.

you can manually sand and polish keycaps to make them all evenly shiny and smooth, some guy on r/customkeyboards did it and it looks pretty damn good imo

also, love the keyset, simple color combo but it works so well. definitely going to be watching this set closely.

Yeah. I don't want to derail. I'll look into maybe polishing mine somehow. I don't even really mind if it's uneven, just when it's massively uneven. There's def an awkward stage that id rather skip, if that makes any sense. All this aside, assuming I find a good way to polish, I'm getting this set.

Needs to have the Pantone join the pantheon of blue caps in pixelpushers bathroom lighting for blue cap comparison

https://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=102663.0;attach=227172;image
This isn't the bright lighting bathroom photo I'm referring to, but some other part of pixelpusher's house. My guess is that dark navy is still darker than the Striker accent...

Could you add two 1.5u Code and two 1u Alt keys to the base for tsangan compat for users the prefer GUI next to the spacebar? Similar to what GMK Wavez did.

Second. I'm a little surprised at how few GMK sets provide this setup.

If this is included somehow, I'm 100% in. Even if there's 1.5u novelties…

Have you done it? I've thought of trying it for 3D printer. You risk melting them though. Would be scared to do it with my keycaps. Haha

As a fellow man who highly enjoys nordic design and navy blue, this is up my alley. An affordable dark horse is just what I wanted.

What I don't care for is the white accent keys. I would prefer something more muted, but a custom color would drive up the price, something that's not ideal for a simple set. Have you tried grey accent instead? Kind of ties in on the nordic design thing. If the accent keys don't drive up the price too much either way then it's not a big deal, I just won't use them.

I love that you implemented simple 40s support in base. Personally I'd want ISO and numpad seperated (especially if you add UK ISO), but I can also see how you'd want to keep things simple. If not then I'd really like a slimmed spacebar kit to be implemented in base (I'd personally only need 2.25 and 2.75, but have no insight on how popular the other bars are). Extra B would be a nice option in base, but not a huge deal.

Either way you have my full support. :thumb:

+1 for this... will buy it either way since it's perfect color in my opinion, but would like to be able to have correct legends on mac setup.

Also, please leave the white accents...

Would also love a grey case render! Black is probably the most difficult option to actually see the keys, haha.

Thanks again for all the kind words and feedback.

Based on the feedback I've received, I've made a couple changes to the base kit:
- kept the same ISO support but changed the legends
- added 2x 1.5u code and 1x 1u alt (1 of the alts was already there)

For now I'm keeping the basic 40s support but I'm considering getting rid of it. Besides that, I'm pretty happy with kitting. As for renders, I'll commission some more soon - not sure what boards I'd want right now so I'm open to hearing suggestions. Finally, it may be early but if any vendors are interested in running this feel free to get in touch :D

I like the Pantone you picked. Two suggestions for the base kit:
  • Add R3 PgUp and R4 PgDn. These are popular options for the right column on 65% and 75% boards.
  • Change R3 1u #~ to \|. If you add full ISO-UK support, #~ is fine, but otherwise stick to \|.

I'm very conflicted on this. I personally prefer \| as the R3 legend but when I asked around it seemed more people preferred two different legends.
As for the PgUp and PgDn keys, I'll probably pass on those. The base kit is already fairly big and it's already pretty standard compatibility for 65% and 75% boards.

Accent arrows are a big maybe right now, but I'm swaying towards not adding them. Also on the topic of accents, I'm going to be sticking to WS1 to keep it nice and simple.

If having different legends is why you opted to go with the out-of-place #~, then just have \| on R3 and <> on R4. This is one of the standard options for US ISO.

As for the PgUp and PgDn keys, I'll probably pass on those. The base kit is already fairly big and it's already pretty standard compatibility for 65% and 75% boards.

Keep in mind that most new sets (incomplete list here) opt to include these keys, while less than half of them include 2× 1.5u Code and an extra 1u Alt like you have here.

As for the PgUp and PgDn keys, I'll probably pass on those. The base kit is already fairly big and it's already pretty standard compatibility for 65% and 75% boards.

If avoiding adding too many keys is a factor AND "the other side" is okay with partial English (UK) support, you could go with the "appeasement" route, as is being done in GMK Copper: have three alpha keys instead of two: R4 \| (common to both options), R3 \| (English (USA)) and R3 #~ (English (UK)).

I would love to see renders of this set on E white or PC. Just for the sake of visualization. Probably not a good idea to render a deep blue set on a deep blue background (albeit looks real nice though)
