why worry about pinpoint flex on a brass material plate without switches or caps modeled instead of just using a more flexible plate material to provide flex

Not to mention I feel like even tho these cuts might make the flex more consistent across the board, and the board more flexible, I'd be shocked if the sound didn't change significantly in the different regions.

Nice, simple and elegant.

Input for the design.
Very, very interested for PVD Silver/Chrome Brass Weight and Plate.

Longing to combine them with E-White or Silver and Black Ano Case.

Thanks.

I missed out on the 1st board and I hope I get a chance on this one.  Thank you for ISO this makes this TKL a real choice for my daily driver and a real competitor for the U-80 I have on the way.  I really like the clean lines at the back with the weight but I do wish that your mark or logo was on the board.  I really liked the last board design but feel that this is a little too plain to have come from Smith + Rune.  I will watch with serious interest.

Because we’re going for a uniform typing feel. Even models with a more flexible material the lower right of keyboards is stiffer and would need to be evened out. At the end of the day, can your fingers feel the difference? Maybe? But we are also in a hobby where people prefer a couple gram differences in spring weights and a few cP difference in lubes, so why not? My original analysis did have switches and PCB modeled in, which caused an approximate 35% increase in stiffness but each simulation took around 10x longer to run. So for times sake I don’t model switches, cap, or caps.

Could the black bottom option come with black screws because the silver screws really pop out?

I support a navy option as well.

I support a navy option as well.

We had actually discussed earlier today including both black and stainless screws so you can choose depending on the color base you have and which you like the most for color.

This looks awesome!  Love the design, and I'm very much in the market if I can't convince a U80-A buyer they should part ways with the board they will be just getting  :))

The show of plate design iterations was informative and gives me confidence that you all know what you are talking about!

U80-A Buyer here. Just out of curiosity, what color were you interested in? Not sure where I stand on parting with it because I do really like the design, but this board has an ANSI bottom row, which I definitely prefer.

I have the grey version coming but I don't think I will part with it just now.  I might change my mind depending on this board.

If u are willing to part with yours I’d be interested, the waiting for a possibility of getting a U80A extra is stopping me from pulling the trigger on some of these GBs.

I can message you when we know more about the Iron180 GB limit. I don't want to part with the U80-A and then not be able to get a spot in the Iron180 GB. Honestly, I also just have to think about it a little. Like I said, I do really like the U80-A design and have great experience with Rama products, but I would definitely rather have an ANSI bottom row TKL. I ordered a U80-A in blue with an extra silver bottom weight, extra silver plate, and the silicone damper insert.

At least as many as the Iron165 (which was 200, divided 100/50/50 across USA/EU/APAC respectively).  However we might try to talk vendors into a bit more!

Yes, please convince them to make many more because people really love this design and people should be able to buy it since the new normal will involve staying at home with a beautiful keyboard more than ever!

I've been lurking on this forum for the better part of the last decade, but I have never felt to need to register and comment on anything, until now.

This is like the elusive keyboard that haunted my wet dreams just materialized. It's amazing!
Hope I will catch a spot on the GB list as I'm in dire need of a new daily keyboard to serve me for the years to come.

I have a question though, is there any chance of having a hot swap PCB or will this affect the stability and the feel of the keyboard? Recently I came across some hot swap keyboards, and the fact you can swap the switches whenever you want is an insane amount of added value for a keyboard.

The issue is flexibility. I love hotswap too, but with it comes a fixed layout. ANSI, ISO, symmetric bottom row, split backspace and shift keys, etc. All of those layout options would require separate PCBs, substantially driving up cost. That’s particularly problematic if the GB for the board is limited, as there are fewer buyers to split the additional cost.

I’m super indecisive when it comes to switches. I hope extra PCBs and plates will be offered alongside the board so I can at least put tactiles on one and linears on another/ have an extra in case I mess something up. My soldering is respectable, but I’m not comfortable de-soldering an entire PCB of switches just to change them out. Having a cheaper hotswap board to try/break in switches before moving them to a soldered, more end game-y board like this is useful.

Sorry I realize this comes across as a little stern.

No, not at all. Thank you for the time you took explaining - I have never thought about this.

It's too bad though, hot swap switches are truly gamechanging.

The new renders look better, getting more excited for this now.  I still think that the logo should appear somewhere on the top of this beautiful keyboard.

The aluminum F13 key will have the logo on it. I think it’s a good approach because it can be used to show off the logo / serve as an F13 keycap for sets that don’t include one, but it also offers the option to minimally/not brand the top of the keyboard for those that want an unbranded look.

This summarizes my thoughts on the matter well. The logo keycap is an ingenious approach imo. Any sort of logo on top of TKLs otherwise looks garish (yes, that includes your beloved $3k TKLs too, you know which ones I mean).

I'm very excited about this! I've been looking for a really nice TKL, but I seem to have entered the hobby when 60%s are most popular. I'll definitely go in on this one!

If that was a RAMA cap specifically for the keyboard it would fulfill the brief for sure.  Could be really nice.

I dunno. At this point I'd prefer Salvun with what he's putting out.

I’m in favour of Salvun just because his instagram stories are so in depth, we’d get to see them being made :P

Thats a good idea, their design profile would most likely suit the design better.
