Super weird, Pitch black is on 4K, but Chron o' Rid**** (2004)/ Rid**** (2013),  are both not.

those are two very different keyboards. Sonnet is probably better, but only pick it if you feel comfortable with that price. Otherwise go with the more budget friendly zoom75.

Keyboards / Re: HHKB Hybrid Type S: Black or White (or Snow) for FEELS?

I don't think the colour really has a difference for hhkbs.

The snow variant is probably more different than the average black one but that's because the snow variant came out later, so it hasn't aged, which could lead to it being more scratchy I guess.

I use Windows for work and play, but use the Apple M3501 at work. The OS key is mapped as the same OS key in Windows so it's functionally identical. I would say I struggle more from switching to the Apple AEK profile to SP SA. The bottom row is also different in number of keys and length of each key, but I don't seem to have any issues with that. I would love if my work keyboard had smaller bezels.

I can see just cause for "improving" the standard layout; however, I don't see the real value in these micro-improvements. The left side of a keyboard is a mix of 1u-2.5u keys. So the only key that can be shrunk without really changing the layout is Shift. What would you add in the space granted by shrinking the shift key? I can't think of I key or string of keys that I use enough to justify it's own button. Same goes with a split space. I like how big it is because I do use both of my thumbs to press space (mostly the right now that I am thinking about it), but more because I strike the space bar from multiple spots as I type, which is probably "incorrect" but feels better. Forgiving. On a ANSI full size there are 4u of space above the numpad that is unused and 5u worth of space around the arrow cluster that could be used for Macros/Shortcuts, etc vs modifying the existing layout.

I work T2 IT so my job doesn't involve lots of shortcuts, it mostly involves writing notes, a few shortcuts for screenshots, opening Windows apps, etc. What kinds of jobs benefit from the increased flexibility and shortcuts and how much time/effort does it save? That level of min/max seems more balanced towards: this is technically faster/easier and is fun more than it is to actual efficiency gains. But at the end of the day keyboards are a means to an end and we are just tryng to express ourselves or have a good time while doing it. I'd love to hear some real world use case where these "micro-efficiencies" are measurable benefits.

I think there is a big improvement for typing when it comes to these micro improvements. I love the hhkb/tsangan layout because the smallish changes to the regular 60% formula really add up to be my favourite typing experience.

That being said it's not perfect for everyone, layers are great for me but some people just want to push one button for their utilities, and also arrow keys on layers may not be suitable for some people who have to use them a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of 65 but for the general non work keyboard, is probably the best layout to start with and see what you like, unless you use frow keys a lot then it's a tkl.

refurbished products in general from mainstream retailers are pretty bad, it's just shoddy work because the person refurbishing it either doesn't have the experience or isn't paid enough to care that much about the product.
Never blame the workers for that which can be attributed to profit.
Sellers will push the limits in order to get the most profit, especially when they know Amazon won't punish them for lying or having lots of returns.

oh I'm not trying to blame the employee there (looking back that isn't very clear)

It's not the employee's fault that they are underpaid and forced to do a shoddy job by having to rush, or they aren't trained properly, that's on the employer.

That's why I said mainstream retailers. Smaller repair and refurbish shops are pretty good because they are trained and paid better. And the product will probably be better too.

putting a child in a world that will probably be in ruin by the end of their life

My children are grateful that I gave them life, and they are glad to be alive.

Life is far from perfect, but a person should get an opportunity to live it.

As it is, the majority of new babies are born into the worst conditions, and many of what would be the most advantaged babies are simply never conceived.

Is that really a rational way to think about procreating? Or, like TP4 says - if you don't want discomfort, don't go outside.

It probably is way to nihilistic and not very rational if I'm being honest now but I just want to know if there is progress to set society up in a forward direction when it comes to stuff like climate change if I ever want to have children. Plus humans aren't rational when it comes to emotional responses which my statement was.

Also this is quite a minor thing compared to the economic pressures of having a child, which is the biggest factor for me and a lot of people for not wanting children, especially since things aren't really going in a upward direction when it comes to stuff like affordable housing and such.

This is the intention of late stage capitalism, to make the working class subservient to the ruling one until the system basically becomes a monarchy.

It's not so villainous/ premeditated. Even most rich ass-#*les agree that in general, monarchies, highly concentrated power is in the long run BAD for business as it increases the ratio of mismanagement.

I agree that a lot of people don't really see what they are doing as villainous, but rather strive for the biggest profit margins, which is prison labour in the us is the most cost efficient labour for businesses, cause it's basically legal slavery.

anti-natalism might be the toughest topic in history to debate

How do we incentivize a young population who is poorer than the last generation and years behind financially than their parents (at the same time in their lives) to take on children who are also more expensive than they have ever been coupled with daycare insecurity due to lack of options or spots in existing daycares?

it's really simple, just make it economically viable for people to have children, but that eats into corporate profits, and we can't have that.

Just in general I'm sorry for being quite negative there (surprisingly I don't like to be that negative, especially recently where I've been the happiest I've been in a long time, it was quite sudden too) but I don't really feel like things are gonna get better in the near future, unless drastic change happens (which it definitely can, especially with this upward trend of more progressiveness in young people and also increasingly amount of union action) and I hope that positive change happens.

The wear pattern on my spacebar is a 1u sized spot below the N key.  2u would easily cover that usage even if I was being sloppy.  As a high-mistake typer I'd dearly like to have a backspace-delete where the left side of the spacebar and save my pinky the frequent travel up to the corner of the keyboard.

I cannot believe I missed this after following this keycap set for literally years.

Any chance there will be a second GB?

Vendors will definitely have extras so keep an eye out. Also, Novelkeys usually hosts extras pre-orders.

I don't expect case companies to do away with 2.5 drives any time soon, while NVME is great, expandability is low.
Besides, it's pretty easy to hide a mount for a pair of them in a case, you can even just put a set of mounting holes in the case bottom/front rear and call it a day.

But also, case companies are slooooooow to move (due to tooling costs), they're still selling cases designed 20 years ago with new face plates, and they HAAAATE removing options.  Drive bays and such are feature or selling point. It's really only been since the Lian Li 011 that has really changed how cases look and work but even that has drive bays behind the mobo. Expect mobo makers to kill sata ports (and adding ore nvme) before cases really start dropping drive bays.

Damn. I'm sorry that can't feel good. Maybe you'll find look getting some extras in-stock?
