Is my Model M Space Saver special?
« on: Fri, 20 August 2010, 20:08:08 »
My Model M space saver has light brown numbers for the numpad in some letter keys. I think usually they are grey color. Are my keys special? Or did they use light brown and grey interchangeably?

They used both a gray and light brown. My M5-2 has the brown legends, while another I saw had black ones. Another Model M I saw had gray legends. Guess it's the luck of the draw.

Model M space savers don't have numpads. If you mean the lettering on the "numpad layout" or whateveryoucallthat, here's on with blue lettering for those keys: http://www.dansdata.com/images/clicky2/spacesaver1280.jpg

Here's one with blue type for the main keys and grey on the alternative layout: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Io8r1JHICyI/S-Rmw9ZQwjI/AAAAAAAAATA/4FgMmOcaOAY/s1600/IBM_M_Space_Saver.jpg

I think they were made with a lot of different colors. Still, someone may be interested in your particular color scheme. I'm not sure which ones were more common.

I love the "Attention" button. And how it's right next to "Break."

The new Bloomberg Terminal keyboards look cool, but they're mushy as ****. They have built-in security, so I doubt an old mechanical terminal keyboard will fully interface with the Bloomberg system.

The brown is easier to see -- especially on my 1986 model M, the legends are bolder than the newer Ms

It's funny not many people mention that... I figured it out by complete accident (and the replacement caps I got, one Ctrl & F8 key, are indeed not as bold).
